Gappy Ranks born and grown Harlesden NW10. Father Jamaican, Mother Dominican, a good combination like Rice & Peas. Early support and recognition of this rising young talent who had made his studio debut with the Ruff Cutt band aged 11 came from local sound system operators and pirate radio stations and soon led to his link up and studio baptism with Stonebridge stars Suncycle Crew.
The embers were soon burning and the young artist next landed a series of killer link ups with the likes of Kray Twinz, Twista and MC Lethal B. It was his initial hit for the legendary Peckings crew "Mountain Top" that really lit the blue touch paper and when the follow up "Heaven In My Eyes" bust international Gappy found himself in the driving seat of an unstoppable rocket to stardom. “Stinking Rich” & “Rising Out The Ghetto” consolidated his success, his impact on the dancehall world mirroring fellow Londoner Amy Winehouse's revolutionizing of the world R&B scene.
In 2010 the release of his eagerly awaited Greensleeves album "Put The Stereo On" ups the ante to another level, the album sees Gappy completing his project with the Peckings crew, producers of Bitty McLean's classic “On Bond Street” album and like that best selling set “Put The Stereo On” is launched on authorized versions from Studio One, Treasure Isle & Bunny Lee.
In 2011, the UK Dancehall star released his second LP titled “Thanks & Praise.“ A modern reggae & dancehall album included tracks feature Delly Ranx & also Russian. A strong urban record that got good rotation on the radio & clubs globally and entered US top 50 reggae charts for 2 months. In 2011, Gappy also appeared on the biggest music TV show in the UK: “Later .. with Jools Holland" on BBC 2 and performed live “Heaven in her eyes“ & “Longtime“. Gappy Ranks also had a crazy experience on the first day of his Japan Tour on March 11th when the Tsunami & earthquake hit the island - Gappy released a track the day of his return UK to share his experience titled "I Was There".
In 2012 Gappy proved to be one of the most popular live draws on the planet, headlining shows across USA, UK, Europe & Austalasia. His dancehall single "Wine Pon De Edge" reach the top of UK charts again. He also released a new EP titled "Cookies", Six tracks dedicated to Ganjah produced by various producers. Gappy also produced his first hit riddim titled "Throw Me Herb" featuring artist such as Busy Signal, Chino, Laden ..
This year Gappy will release his 3rd album "Before Breakfast" & will keep performing around the world - starting in New Zealand at Raggamuffin Festival along with Lauryn Hill & many more before returning to the USA east coast. His single "Money Finger" Featuring Busy Signal is playlisted on BBC 1xtra & many other urban stations around UK.
