Reports of Zoki at ROTR

Between the guy flogging himself in front of everybody in the dome tent, the Rick James impersonator, the people setting off fireworks and explosives, and the dude busted for trying to lock a couple of girls in his tent, one of them had to be zoki. Maybe it was the guy in the dildo hat?

Zoki, the master of disguise, on all counts.

He can also be spotted wearing the uniform of the Foreiign Legion decorated with purple sequins, carrying a portable radio playing Joe Higgs tunes and an empty barrel in the case he runs into Bufo.

i dont know but i dont think ive ever seen as un-irie a gathering as all the testosterone in that "campground" (yeah right) out there by the dome. i dont think i would want to be a female there, escorted or not. im amazed there arent any rapes but i guess thats just because everyone is so out there they dont even realize it when they are raped.

the music was good; the people (some anyway) were animals. i dont see how this thing keeps getting put on much less sold out. and the "camping" is strictly ghetto style from what i can observe.

You are probably referring to the guys a few campsites down from me. Straight swillers. Up all night doing shots of tequila and pulling in anyone they could. Yellling at everyone as they went by. Trying to pick up anyone they could. I heard more than one confrontation coming from that area.

I forgot to mention that I also caught someone resembling zoki urinating on my tent at 2AM. Also the usual porta-pottie stories of crap smeared everywhere. What I wasn't expecting was the graffiti all over the outside and inside or the "Die Niggers" slogans on the inside. That was a first. I'd like to thank the guy who was tripping so hard on the hill on Saturday that he didn't see me lying down before he kicked me in the head full force. The story I heard about the dog going into the river a couple of weeks before the fest and dying due to the blu/green algae problem they're having in the river this year was also a first. The super soaker stayed in the car after that one.

All in all though, I had a greattime. I second your comments jah bill. The music, which is what I go for most, was excellent. Some of the people were animals. Luckily the people directly to each side of us were cool. I too don't see how this keeps getting put on without incidents that cause it to be shut down except to say that it is truly a community event. The camping is straight up ghetto unless you're lucky enough to get some sand.

Not to be rude, but can it get more ghetto than the snwmf camping? That seemed pretty bad to me. I am used to camping with trees and space and though I did like the showers (good thing they were hard to find, no lines), We kept getting more and more people trying to push there way into our space. I had to spread my stuff out just to keep people from thinking the little 6 by 6 space next to us was a space they could plop their whole crew into. Otherwise it was a fun experience. I have heard the horror stories of rotr though.

rotr camping in that area is tent to tent, literally, and on river rocks varying in size from softball to basketball. snwmf is the hilton by comparison. you dont believe it until you see it. fortunately some friends of mine have the foresight to reserve sites in richardson grove across the river every year.

this year my friend and i camped on the rocks about halfay between the entrence to the fest and the concert bowl. we found a nice little space that was mostly sand, so it was nice. Peace.

SNWMF does have its share of problems like not much shade, a hell of a lot of dust, and serious heat combined with those two things. They make up for it with better facilities, vendors, the building full of misters, and the RV area if you're so lucky as to have one. Reggae on the River takes it to another level. I don't know if you've ever been to ROTR sillysquirt, but it is a completely different class of people and camping. The people thing takes a while to explain, but those that have been to both fests know what I'm talking about. The camping though is serious camping. No facilities whatsoever except Porta-potties and a little sink next to them and a lot of rocks. I guess for some that's part of the mystique.

"the building full of misters"

Exactly what sort of festival are we talking about here?

Funny Rootzilla, but I don't think a room full of those kinds of misters would do well around the Rastas.

That's why I asked, 4:20. What did that actually mean?

I meant the misters like the ones that spray a fine mist of water. At SNWMF there was a buliding with a line of them hanging from the ceiling. If you got too hot you could walk through the building and get some nice cool mist on your face.

I should mention that ROTR had a mist line too, but it was smaller and just off to the side of the stage in the sun. No big deal, but it was nice to go in out of the sun and get a little wet at Sierra.

The mist room was the best, and they had misters in the sun on the fence between the camping and the concert area. I am aware of the 'vibe' of rotr, I know many people who have gone. (IN a way, since I am not from CA, that was a worry signal for me, only because I used to go to Burning man, and now like everywhere I turn someone has gone, and it is 5 times bigger now and more expensive, so I connected rotr to something like that.) I had to choose between rotr and snwmf. My origonal plan was rotr, because before I moved from the mainland in 2000 I had heard very little of snwmf. But while I have been gone it has grown to be just as good and I would say better than rotr. Coming to the message board swayed me to make my trip to the mainland in June instead of August. I made the right decision. smiling smiley
