Mashdown - it's 1972, faze four - there were alot of rootsy hard killers on that label earlier than you would think (eg - Ghetto organ - J Mittoo - the murderous blueprint to the "Sidewalk Doctor" musiclab 10"winking smiley I think Let Love in was later (still looking for that on 7 if anyone wants a wicked trade?) although I'm not sure it's exactly the same riddim as not listed as a version in "never grow old".

I think it's a mistake on the Tribute to Jackie Mittoo CD (Heartbeat) where they mistitled Sidewalk Killer.

According to Soul Jazz 'Scorcher' the original source for this one was 'Woman Of The Ghetto' by DORIS DUKE. The only cut from Jackie Mitoo at Studio 1 is on the 10" Music Lab (or 'Scorcher' / Soul Jazz). The rhythm also is very similar to an old Temptations hit on Motown.

VERSIONS:
Apollo 13 - PRINCE JAZZBO - (Studio 1)
More Creation - LENNIE HIBBERT (Studio 1)
Poco Tempo - PABLOVE BLACK (Studio 1)
Side Walk Doctor - JACKIE MITTOO & BRENTFORD ROCKERS (Music Lab)
Stupid Doctor - TOMMY McCOOK (Treasure Isle)
Woman Of The Ghetto - PHYLLIS DILLON (Treasure Isle)
Woman Of The Ghetto - HORTENSE ELLIS (Randy's)

Sly & Robbie's LP Disco Dub (Gorgon) opens with a great dub cut.

I know it exists peeps cos i got it on a faze four 7"! definitely titled "Ghetto Organ" must be misitled pon LP's it is slower and even more menacing than the 10" but with no dub on the flip. It also is much longer than the 1st part of the 10" (the phyllis dillon "woman in the ghetto" Treasure Isle being the orig reggae cut hence the title - also "sidewalk killer" - I roy b/w "Sidewalk doctor"(horns) - T Mccook - SRS 7"/ Stupid doctor(flute) - T McCook on T Isle blank) also you missed "Street Doctor" - Prince Francis - IRON SIDE 7" (got that too so def. exists) bad DJ cut.

Jack P, thanks for all the extra info. and corrections.

'Ghetto Organ' on the LP 'Macka Fat' must be mistitled like you say. It's was never that simple with Studio 1 labels/titles. Nothing beats having original pressings in most cases.

I don't trust Soul Jazz as such, but do trust Noel Hawks' informative sleeve notes. It's like a bonus whenever we get them.

ha ha, only joking, just that they're not exactly definitive! You got "Never grow old" discography? (search for rob chapman / never grow old if not) - absolutely the best source of S1 info from the master twitcher!! Love.

I have just picked up the latest LP pressing of Jackie Mittoo's 'Evening Time' on Studio 1 and there are now 14 tracks on it. The exact same cut of 'You Don't Love Me' (wrongly titled on 'Macka Fat' as 'Ghetto Organ') has been included, although it's not listed on the sleeve or label. For some odd reason the CD version does list all the tracks and the version of 'You Don't Love Me' has been correctly titled (or retitled) 'Loving You'.

Now that things have changed at Studio 1 it would be a nice surprise to see the 7" 'Ghetto Organ' re-issued.
