While back I bought the double-sided-vocal 7" of Ken Boothe's "Friends" b/w "Christopher Columbus" on the Fox label.

Couple questions:

1- Was "Friends" ever released with a version side?
2- The 7" copy I bought - the "Christopher Columbus" side plays near perfectly,
but the "Friends" side sounds very crappy (lots of hiss, very bad pressing)

Wondering if everyone else's "Friends" side plays poorly.....

3- I heard that Boothe's "Friends" is an American cover song --- a buddy of mine
even went as far as saying it had something to do with the soundtrack
to "Fiddler on the Roof".

I checked into the soundtrack but heard no sign of this --- but can anyone tell
me if this is actually an American cover tune.

Lastly, I finally bought the LP "Two of a Kind" Ken Boothe & Tyrone
Taylor. "Friends" is on that LP and it sounds great!! Very good pressing of the
tune, if anyone had similar problems with the 7" pressing of this tune, and
wants a clean copy --- don't hesitate to buy the Taylor/Boothe LP.

Mashdown,

No problems not answering my question --- as you can see, it's such a popular subject ;-).

Anyways, your Christopher Columbus dreams can probably come true if you take this route.

How is the tyrone taylor side on this LP RFJ ?

Apart from the killer Niney "sufferation" tune the rest of what i heard from taylor was quite lame...

Hi Skunkride,

Agree with ya about Tyrone Taylor - plenty of not-so-good stuff. On this lp, his side has one really, really good song "I'd Like To Know" (ILTK - what's wrong with the nation, younger generation type of thing).

The rest of the lp - "Live (Life) Table" is not bad (very good lyrics), almost sounds like a quasi Niney production. From there, don't expect too much.

Now, the Boothe side has three A-1 level tunes. "Christopher Columbus", "Friends" and (one I never heard before) "Namibia". "Reggae Feelin" and "Lay Your Hands Off" aren't exactly bad, but they're not as good as the others.

I've said it before but I'll say it again --- Ken Boothe is one of my favorite JA singers. Going on voice quality alone, he ranks up there with Freddy McKay, Delroy Wilson, & Slim Smith.

WTS - if you like Ken Boothe, you don't wanna be without this half of a lp.
