Nice tunes here, had never heard that Heptones tune (Through The Fire), and the Lovejoys and Lion Youth cuts are huge. HIFi bringing some serious dub to the show - niceness!

Spleece - that other Heptones vid starts off with the title Oh Jab - LOL. They must have the same collection I do - but you'd think someone taking the time to make a vid would know betta! Land of Love one of the best tunes ever.

Now I'm going to drop a few to silence King Smoka, who be hoggin on the tables! Remove ya!!

This deep box selector from Italy has some absurdly killer & impossible to find vintage roots tunes on his youtube channel:

Prolly my fave on there is Roy Dobson - Our Roots are in Africa...
Re: bring your heaviest old school tune to this thread
December 13, 2009 09:44AM
yep, flexi, i posted that roy dobson above. beautiful tune, as is jah children rising.

spleece, most people familiar with noel ellis actually DO rate him highly. i've read alot of praise for him. that LP is just killer, and now easier to find as a repress; big ups to "light in the attic" label for the release.

thought it was done in canada, but to tell you the truth rich, not sure off the top of my head. it may be just that lights in the attic is canadian--that's probably more likely...i don't kow much about him either.

we play a few cuts off that LP; side one is just pure niceness. i believe he's alton's son. don't know alot more. have some pretty recent stuff by him, but nowhere near the caliber of this particular LP.

Will post something up in a minute but just wanted to comment on a couple of things. That Noel Ellis LP is super, as is his cut from the Summer Records Anthology - i think i played that thing non-stop for about 2 weeks when i first got it 2-3 years back and definitely put him into the Sattaday night mix on occasion. i have noticed though that i never hear any of his works played 'round town and have even seen used copies of this LP & CD in the local shops for literally months on end - it boggles the mind. He is indeed the son of Alton Ellis and that album was recorded in Canada - Light in the Attic handled the re-release (and the Summer Records Anthology that has some really nice selections as well) and is based in Seattle.

If you don't already have it, you might also want to check the Earth, Roots, & Water "Innocent Youths" LP that was also re-released as part of that series - couldn't find a clip of any of those chunes but here is a cut of theirs from the Summer Records Anthology that is well appropriate for this thread:

Some suggestions to look for if you interested in hearing more Noel Ellis.

Repatriate-Love Life 7"

Here's "Live in Love" for your listening. I'm still searching for the other one. Hope I got the name right. If I remember correctly it's even better.

Sometimes when you check a song, you dont really pay attention to the lyrics.. The words all kinda jumble together, making no sense... But when you finally just sit and listen, you are blown away by the message.. That just happened to me when checking the Viceroys version of this song.. That said, maybe someone can help fill in the blanks here..
