got a custom one from these guys:
Dub Mekanix UK

true analog circuitry, in a tough metal casing....
it has been dubbed the "Dub Yoda".... based on the "Dub Vader" on his site...
same box, but with a revised layout, green led's and moog style knobs....
pics to come soon... on his site under the custom section....
just stoked and want to share the resource with those that are interested....
tell em the guy with the dub yoda guy recommended ya!

---------

great folks......
great product.....
great craftsmanship...
just wanna spread the word about them....
doing great things for music.....
support independent companies supporting reggae music....

How much do Deadly Dragon charge for the 'deluxe' siren they have (with built in delay, etc) ? I can't seem to find it on their website

If you have any interest in building one, there are lots of schematics online.

Re: Analog Dub Siren....
August 31, 2010 06:34PM
here is another link for the DIY stylee although not updated that recently... (some from 2001)

FYI, most of the DIY options are based on cheap vero board kits or modifying a toy keychain....

whereas DubMekanix uses professionally made circuit boards (DubSiren v1.5, 2010) at the heart of their machines.... just to note a big difference....

although i do like the internal delay option from DD....
for mine i'm gonna take apart a boss echo/delay pedal and put it in a case that matches the siren.....

Dub siren build finished!

Sorry I don't have the capabilities to post a vid or sound. It has some wicked sounds though. Not exactly what I want in a siren, but close enough for something built from scratch by me. I'll say this, I know WAY more than I did about electronics and soldering than I did a couple weeks ago! I highly recommend building one to anyone who's interested in simple sound effects units. I personally hope to gain enough knowledge to take on bigger and more interesting projects in the future. Here's the link again to build this one....

Re: Analog Dub Siren....

nice....... love the use of the moog style knobs...

.....so the controls are.....

-----------------
color / pitch / siren rate / modulation

volume / run-trigger switch / modulation on-off
-----------------

is that correct?

how much did it cost ya?

does this one have a delay in it?

i like the trigger you used..... where ya get it?

if it's cheap enough i might have to build one myself to compare to mine....

Re: Analog Dub Siren....
September 21, 2010 07:30PM
Thanks everybody. Feels pretty good to see somethin like this through. No delay in this. Got the trigger from radio shack. As for the knobs on mine bottom left is volume. On top left to right is modulation, waveform, phase, frequency. The left switch is on/off for modulation. The switch on the right is on/on. One way for permanent on(constant siren), and the other way to use trigger only.

As for how much this thing cost me... just the parts is really not that bad. I did not end up getting all the stuff from the same place. Some at local radio shack. Avoid this, as they are the most expensive. I was anxious to get started, but what I lost in mark ups I gained in motivivation. The rest of the stuff I source from Digi-Key and Parts Express. I couldn't find anyone who had it all. I think you could get the parts for under $70. Probably closer to $50. But I needed a soldering iron, I needed a magnifying glass and clamps, a precision screwdriver set and more. The hidden costs will add up if you're not already set up for this. But my next DIY electronics project whatever that may be, will not require so many tools and extras. I have a load of insight into how this project could have been easier for me. So if anyone has a go at it, I will be more than happy to help you. Respect.

If it's still there, harvesting the reverb tank isn't a bad idea either. As funky as those Tapcos were, they had way better reverb than anything you find in most mixers these days. Springs!!!

I've got an extra dub siren for sale if anyone is interested.

I also have a NEW (yes NEW in the box from 1968) Fisher SpaceXpander spring reverb unit, which I believe is the same unit King Tubby's used (albeit his was modified) in his studio for those wicked snare hits.

Sandro sells everything on his site (I think he can custom make stuff too)

The siren is 140 euros including shipping, the Sensiverb is 280 euros.

He told me "stay tuned cause we are about to release a dubwise digital delay, for sound systems and dj use, cheap and killer" (which I am looking forward to)

+1 regarding www.benidubaudio.tk as I mentioned earlier in the thread. The man has opened up the old NJD's, copied the circuitry, sourced the obsolete components that are no longer made. If you want that "Jah Shaka" siren sound and want a reliable builder, this is your guy.

I'm excited for the digital delay as well!

hows your siren treating ya stevo?
which delay you got it running through?

i thought might be cool to get and build the guts into the enclosure when i build my first DIY siren.....

I bought one of the Benidub sirens and the thing is better than most I have heard out there. I was supposed to get a real NJD SE-1, but it fell through.

Sandro @ Benidub is a very honest, dependable guy, I wholeheartedly recommend him based on my personal experience. I received the siren in one week from him receiving my payment, and that's from Spain to CA.

As he told me 10 minutes ago "the digital delay is on the bench" (I'm assuming his workbench) and I will be buying one as well.

The siren he sells is compact, produces all kinds of crazy tones and is very well built. If you have your own custom logo or sound system graphics, they will make the siren box with it.

@HG-
I don't have a delay. The siren I have is fun no doubt. But after building it and feeling the sound, I'm still looking for something different. Again, I learned soooo much from the build. And I'm very glad I decided to do it. Looking for a new project now!

@Eric V-
Great news you got one of the benidub units! I'm going to get one too! It is awesome to hear testimony of legit respectful dealings online like that. Too many stories of bad dealings a gwaan.

Now hear this.... Sandro run tings!
Re: Analog Dub Siren....

Stevo,

In this day and age, when you have such a positive experience in trade such as mine with Sandro/Benidub, I feel it is proper to take a few minutes and put it out there. Too many times we take notice when someone has wronged us in a sale/trade, etc, but rarely ever point out the good experiences and people out there.

As I mentioned, he is top notch in communication, explanation, organization, products, etc. I want to buy one of the Sensiverb units, but will hold back until later. I even thought about sending him my Fisher SpaceXpander and seeing if he could modify it for me and make it a preamp/stereo unit. I'm sure he could pull it off.

But to anyone else reading this, as Stevo mentioned, go to Sandro. You won't be disappointed in either the products nor the great service at all.

I think I will mention to Sandro this thread so maybe he can speak into it if he feels like it.

Be well,
eric v
