Another musical genius passes into history. He was one of the true jazz giants that I got to see back in the late 60's and early 70's that really opened my ears.

Always an intense and exacting personality, from what I saw, and fully committed to his art.

Truly a legend and musical genius! I got the privilege of seeing him perform w his son at a vineyard in my home town. What an inevator. You will be missed Mr. Brubeck, thank you!

anecdotal story I just heard about Dave Brubeck on jazz radio....
he helped break the color line because people did not want to employ his black bassist
he said we're a quartet, there's four of us, take it or leave it, you want to hire me you hire us all.....pretty cool.

Here a bit of trivia -- Dave Brubek was drafted into the Army during WWII and served in Patton's Third Army in 44-45. The Army band that he led was the first integrated unit in Patton's army.
