Black Sand Beach in Shelter Cove--go west off 101 in Garberville along a torturous hour-long drive. That's after seeing The Founders Grove, off The Avenue of the Giants.

The coast is always nice, there's a lot of trails leading to out-of-the-way beaches, just look for a small parking lots along the Hwy 1. Avenue of the Giants, particularly the alternate route off the 101, is great, as would be a dip in the Eel River. Hendy Woods has a nice Redwood patch that has trails, and that is 15 minutes out of Boonville.

Good Luck!

Much thanks for the info. The Cove and The Giants look great. Locals know best man. Irie!
Hendy will be a must stop. Enjoy the fest!

After Fest go back to Hwy1 go south and stop at Salt Point State park, Fort ross(Russian Encampment Fort in US soil), Jenner by the Sea and stop at lands end, Hit Up Bodega Bay then Hit up the town of Bodega(where the OG Movie "the Birds" was filmed), Lots of Beaches & tidepools, also hit up Stumptown brewery in Rio Nido along the Russian River

Lovely, is it not??

My wife & I after the fest drive when we can the coast, both north & south of Mendo---what IS there not to like??
What a body/mental altered state, and tonic, if one lives in the land-locked areas of the country.

Come to Point Arena! Land of the Giraffes, Zebra's and our own resident freaks winking smiley Oh, and we have a magnificent community theater, and a working pier (fish for free!) and a lighthouse...all this is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the venue! Point Arena Wildlife

Take Mountain road over the mountain to Manchester, then head south for a few minutes and you are in Point Arena, but it will take an hour. As i was told one night in the theater there while viewing a Pink Floyd tribute band, 'In Point Arena, you don't lose your wife, you just lose your turn!'

Love that reggae!
