Anyone make it this year? Seemed like a good line-up.

Secondhand word I heard was that NWWRF was a great disappointment, with multiple acts a no-show. Interested to hear from a "trusted" boardie about the runnings.

Northwest World Reggae Mess

ouch!!! were there no ticket sales or just poorly managed money?
Re: How was NWWRF?

Ouch, indeed if that's how it really went down. I just checked the fest's FB page and several people tearing them a new one. We can only speculate as to what happened. I generally give people the benefit of the doubt, but it would suck big time if I went to a fest and there wasn't music for the Saturday portion of the fest. What a bummer. I hope they can recover from this, as it's seems the fest has been building momentum the last two years.

It makes our complaints and suggestions thread regarding SNWMF inconsequential. We sure have it good in Booneville.

Thank You SNWMF!

I heard that several artists were there including Kabaka and it was such a mess hardly any one got to play. Apparently they knew Raging Fyah wouldn't be there weeks ago but were still billing them. Folks are calling this Epic Faliure on organizers part. I heard that artists were being asked for cc's at checkout of lodging as the cc provided was being declined. I was not there, just passing on what I heard.

to be sure, Raging Fyah was a no show but that's not the full story. they communicated to the promoter in plenty nuff time that they would not make it. nuff time for promoter to let the massive know... yet said "demoter" (as one very irate internationally recognized musician ranted to mi) did no such thing. in fact dis clown sent out an email on Friday saying RF was still on the bill

and dis cat has the gall to tell people it will happen again next year... who wants to get robbed?!!!

and yeah it was an enormous flop. tho it was no surprise to this observer. the surprising thing was the depth of the flop...

I am sure if Ones look at the facebook pages right now before they are swept clean again... Ones will see...

and one participator shared this when it was asked if Kabaka Pyramid had performed... there was lots of confusion...

"He didn't.. Neither did Perfect .. Neither did Raging Fyah who never were going to come anyways due to visa issues but I got an email on Saturday saying they were still on the schedule.. Perfect & kabaka were both ready & willing to play but didn't because no one knew what was going on and when asked no one had any answers.. Third world came on at 1230 and etana at about 2... Funniest part was checking out of the hotel on Sunday and having the hotel ask all the artists for money cause the credit card bounced !!! What a joke .."

Sad Sad Sad. Really hurt to see NWWRF bomb. My only highlights of the festival were Jahdan Blackamoore and President Brown friday night. They both killed it. Was so awesome to have Prez Brown headline! After catching him at 2pm at most festivals it was fun to have him headline. Music did not start friday until 7 or 8pm. Then on Saturday we had no music until Third World came on at 1am. So dissapointed in that set. I saw them in Bend, OR on thursday before I left to NWWRF. I figured Third World had enough songs they would play different sets. Nope. Song for song, word for word the same set. Etana came on so late that I would say there was anywhere from 150-300 people still around. She killed it but my energy level was low due to how late it was and how dissapointing of a day it was.

I really wanted to see Kabaka Pyramid and Perfect. I spent $500 that weekend and saw 4 bands. I dont mean to sound negative as I always try to come to this phorum with a positive attitude and spirit but to say I was dissapointed is an understatement. I dont see NWWRF being around next year.

sorry to be negative but it is all truthful.

Rossta, it hasn't been that long ago that NWWRF got rave reveiws from some of the guys in the Sierra Nevada braintrust, so not really sure why this fest has fallen so far so soon.

Oh how I mourn for the children of today. How easy it is for me to remember the days of youth, innocence and optimism. Love your attitude man, hold your corner steady brother, try not to become a codgerly cynic. But as you are seeing it happen before your eyes, it ain't easy sometimes being a devoted reggae fanatic. The good always kills the bad-that's what makes the music so great.

And yeah, feeling your pain, though. Unbelievable for a Saturday...to have to wait all day on Saturday until 1:00 am for da-da, Third World? Ouch. I liked them last time they played Sierra but....

I say... Some Never Plant yet want to Reap,
Be careful, try to look before you leap;
Took a little walk from my Vineyard...
Now I'm all alone..

It has been a long time since NWWRF got rave reviews based SOLELY on the music. People love to camp at Bob's Ranch. Trust me, I am one of them. I have nothing against anyone running that festival, they have been nothing but nice to me. Having said that, this can't go on.
Re: How was NWWRF?

"Nothing but nice to you" shouldn't matter to you after the huge thread you started about reggae in Oregon .. It's about the music and what they did represented the northwest, Oregon in particular, very poorly..
Re: How was NWWRF?
August 02, 2013 04:54AM
To be clear I do agree with your other post ninja.. The scene is too small in Oregon as it is.. When you have very few paying fans then it makes it pointless for these artist to make there way to Oregon .. To me it's like downloading music.. You aren't supporting the music like that
Re: How was NWWRF?
August 02, 2013 03:04PM
I was there...unfortunately. I got some stories to post when I get back from Reggae On the River (haven't had time to post about NWWRF yet).

One can only hope that Doug Carnie has figured out he needs to give it up and let someone else take over. This is the second disaster two years in a row. He is hurting the Reggae scene here in Oregon.

So sad to hear about This, I have heard from many artist & Sound Crews on NWRF and all had Payment problems and more, OMG
Mr. Mutant (Doug owns Muntant Arts in PDX)had problems the 1st year on the Pudding River Site with paying Vendors & Bands-lots of Comps- then I thought he got better as Bands and Vendors got paid the 2nd year at Pudding River(I Hated the plowed field for the fest) then he moved to Bob's Ranch and had a hard time the first year there, then he got better-see a pattern goin on- but guess not Now!. my last NWRF was two years ago and I had a RV full of Artists & Crew we all got paid tho we had to wait till Sun night to get paid, so new it might go back to Year 1 but hoped it wouldn't, we need more fest's(hopefully run well) but I Guess, Another one bites the DUST!
oh and like Ninja said Bob's Ranch is a choice spot and they raise Great Veggies and Beef Yummo and are great people.
Next summer I hope there is a Oregon Reggae Fest -maybe Hornings Hideout I think Bob is down wit it smiling smiley
Or State of Jefferson , howbout BEND?
