Love Is All I Bring - Another 2013 Roots & Culture Mix

Love Is All I Bring - Another 2013 Roots & Culture Mix by BMC

After my well-received Step Out And Dance mix from early this year, I felt like making a next 2013 mix to close the year with. Lots of great music has been released this year again that many don't seem aware of, next to the usual larger pile of low-quality crap ofcourse. I hope this mix will introduce some of this lovely music to people out there, so they can check out the artists and labels further, you wont be sorry!! The so called 'revival' of more positive, conscious music by artists like Chronixx, Protoje and Kabaka Pyramid clearly made its impact this year on the reggae scene and on me same way. So no surprise to find quite a few tracks by especially Chronixx and Kabaka Pyramid in this one. Besides them, a whole variety of artists and producers recorded and released very worthwhile tunes this year and this mix showcases a whole heap of different names and styles to proof that. Especially nice this year has been the increasing number of tunes that get pressed on vinyl again, love that, bought quite a bunch of 'm! Mix is in the usual BMC style: no full tunes, some but not too many sound samples, one continuous cd-length mix in the old-school mixtape tradition. If you like what you hear, go check out the full tunes in good quality to get the real deal. I just love this music, Love Is All I Bring!

Enjoy and happy new year people, thanks for another year of support for the efforts I put into these mixes!

Don't mind at all, I use a quite old (and received via a friend) version of a software program called Sony Vegas. A program primarily for video editing, but audio mixing works very well too.

That's tight. I remember thinking back in highschool video class, some of those video editing programs would be perfect for that

yes... loving this mix right off the top.

going to track and push out to the island bredin.

they been asking for mixes as of late.. seems like the board has hit a mix dry spell of late.

this one for sure makes up for lost time.

with regards to mixing software.. yes vegas is a top choice.. i also use 'cool edit' aka adobe audition.

really any multi-track editor will work.. you just line up the tracks to where you want to mix... its pretty easy with reggae.. since you are dealing with tunes on the same riddim.. plus with reggae, songs always start with a opening cymbal crash or drum roll.. so easy to mix between tunes on the same riddim, then transition to a next riddim, by simply transitioning on the cymbal crash/drum-roll..

Yes randomguy2u and bigvein, thanks a lot for the positivity, much appreciated!

And yes bigvein, mixing reggae by riddim is usually not too difficult, but it's often the vocals that are the challenge for me. To get the one artist follow up the next and make it sound 'natural' in a way, without weird fading, cutting or overlapping of words/sentences (like if it really is a multi-artist-track) or fitting in just that part of the tune that you vocalwize want in the mix and make just that transaction smooth, that's where most time goes for me (that is after the selection of what to mix is made, which is most time consuming). Sometimes I use three different parts of one tune for 1,5 minutes in the mix just to get it sound just right (to my ears that is ofcourse winking smiley) or play with dubs overlapping with the vocal cuts to make it sound just somewhat different (as with Selassie Souljahz in this one); all fun to do.
