I would go see this show to check for Bugle. I'll need confirmation he's landed and going to be there.
Any other Bugle dates in California? America?

Yes! Thanks to whomever thought to bring Bugle to the West Coast. His last album could be a new artist album of the year for me and now I'm hearing more and more singles on JA radio as well ! Big artist. Forward Bugle.

Awesome, was a little confused because there is a festival happening at the Santa Clara Fair Grounds on July 4th with a very simmilar name? Bay Area in the house!!

Any word on how this fest is shaping up? is everyone on the lineup going to show?
Re: 1st Annual Bay Area Reggae Fest July 17-19 2015

$200.00 for a weekend ticket??? $75.00 for a single day ticket??

IMHO this is waaaaaaay too much to charge for this festival....Given, there are some great acts on there, but still that is way too much to charge!! I won't be going
Re: 1st Annual Bay Area Reggae Fest July 17-19 2015

It is a lot, agreed. That is why I was asking....there also is not a daily lineup yet with times from what I can tell on the website so unsure how this one will really go off....

Same sketch promotion as 19 Broadway?
I saw enough 30 minute performances for $30 there to know you're up for a good bait and switch with this one.
Does that warehouse even hold a sound proper?
I'll check for Romain Virgo and Freddie McGregor in the area around this time
If they are even in the area.
***ENTIRE LINEUP SUBJECT TO CHANGE***
Hurry Up and Wait.....I'll pass.

I think 19 broadway shows are more reliable than this one...

ok, great, sounds sweet, can we have confirmation of some sort for all the other big time names? are they really gonna be there??
keep in mind, the person that is putting on this event use to put on the bait and switch Monterey Reggae Festival. I wanna see all those artist but spending $75.00 a day not being sure doesnt feel so good..

That room is not ideal for concerts because of the construction however It is a beautiful location. Actually i work next door. A great place for events with views of the bay and the building is stunning. Hopefully they have the top notch sound company working it cause the room is as difficult as it gets for a sound man. Tall ceilings and glass walls.

Hey folks! As a reggae promoter and booking agent for the past 12 years, sometimes its not easy working with international reggae and dancehall artists because of such reasons as visa issues, missing flights etc. Things go wrong sometimes, but you have to keep on pushing on.
ALL of the headline artists we booked are ONLY performing at the Bay Area Reggae Fest and no where else in the area...I'll post some of the video drops for the skeptics...I know it sounds to good to be true!

Headliner Lineup as follows:

Friday July 17th
Gyptian
Bugle
Dexta Daps
Junior Reid
Romain Virgo

Saturday July 18th
RDX
Sister Carol
Marcia Griffiths

Sunday July 19th
Barrington Levy
Lady Saw
Freddie McGregor

I really dont want to get involved in the politics of this fest, hoping it all goes well and as expected, and most of all for positive music to grow and succeed! I have however been asked by LUV FYAH, to inform the readers of this board that he will NOT Be Performing There. I am still hoping to make it sat eve after work, but will see how it all goes...

I was reluctant to post anything, but Luv Fyah never hesitates to give a strength and is good artist and a good clean hearted person, so when he asked I felt it was the right thing, as much as I would like to stay out of it all...

Biggest bait and switch festival ever. Don't go to this show. None of the last four bands played. People got robbed tonight at this festival.

Re: 1st Annual Bay Area Reggae Fest July 17-19 2015

I left at 11 pm. What a catastrophe. This isn't bait, and there was no switch, it was just a lie. I let the organized criminals running this show steal my money. If you are as incompetent as it takes to completely bag the first nights bands, all of them, it amounts to organized criminality to actually charge admission. Where was Jr Reid at 7.45 as advertised? Where was Bugle at 9 pm? Where was Romain Virgo at 10 whatever?

Over priced to start with including parking 85 bucks, i got there at 6.30, some band was just finishing. After awhile a dj started playing. Jr Reid's band set up and did sound check at 7.30, then he came out to the stage and they all took their instruments and left. At the time there were about fifty people there, and the place was set up for thousands. I can't imagine the vendors will bother showing up tomorrow. Might have been 100 people in the hall when they switched dj's at 11 pm, but a bunch of them left with me. You don't start another dj if a band is about to come out. There wasn't enough time before curfew for more than two bands, and i didn't think any of them would play. I would certainly not waste my money there tomorrow, i can't imagine anyone as classy as Sister Carol or Marcia Griffiths being seen there.

And while i was waiting i decided to step out the door and have a puff. The yellow shirted security dude came out and told me i could not do that there. So i asked him where i could do that and he said, no where, it's illegal. WTF, it's a reggae show!!! So i stepped around the corner, and tried to avoid the uniformed cops that kept strolling thru the whole venue, inside and out, even thought there were a hundred people there.

If you had asked me when planning this festival i would have told you for sure that you better have a darn good reason for people to go to Richmond because it's hard to draw for a reggae show in the best of venues. All the other reggae shows at the Craneway have failed, but this was the worst. On the weekend of the Oroville show. Because there are such an excess of reggae fans in northern california? But after these kind of shenanigans, your reputation is ruined. You guys should try something simpler like organizing picnics.

Of course, i did know that it would be a disaster. I told ja_lover early on that friday night would be the crash, saturday would be the burn, and sunday wouldn't happen. Turns out that was unrealistically optimistic. Hope you got to see someone for staying ja_lover!

Love that reggae!

Worst reggae experience ever. Paid $80 plus a hotel and 6 hour travel and no artists played except for DJs. Romain Virgo and Jr. Reid were in the building, along with Gyptian's band. The gates didn't open until 5:30 and was supposed to be 3; then the promoter announced at 11:30 that no bands would play. The promoter was mobbed outside for refunds and everyone was told they could happen. Several people got money only; the rest were given round about answers with the police standing nearby. What a waste of time and money and truly an embarrassment for reggae music.

Royalniss's FB Post -

"I did everything I was asked to do by Mystic Man Reggae. I booked artists on this ‪#‎BayAreaReggaeFest‬ that was a total scam. I have artists sitting in a hotel and can't get paid by the promoters. My company Royalniss Entertainment booked the headliners, paid deposits and booked airfare to get them here to California, only to be scammed for the rest of their money. Therefore none of the artists took the stage. I am canceling all the rest of the artists that I had a hand in booking. I will have nothing more to do with this debauchery. My sincerest heartfelt apologies to all the fans, artists and people that were mislead by ‪#‎MysticMan‬ and let down by me since I was involved, although I did nothing wrong. And since my name and company is involved, I have alot of air to clear....I am completely ashamed to have been tricked into this fuckry!"

I sure did see it coming, but when there is a reggae show in my home town, however downbeat it may be, i feel a responsibility to go. And it doesn't lessen my anger at having gotten shafted just because i knew it might happen.

In my ten years of going to reggae shows, this is the first time i've gotten screwed. So i guess i'm not a virgin anymore. Thanks Andre........By the way, i got some great video of some young women skanking to the dj for five minutes. Soon come......

I have decided to go see Sublime with Rome and Rebelution today instead. Tickets are only $30 for lawn seats. I need to see some live music ASAP.

I can't believe I'm going to a Cali Reggae show over a roots show but I know that those artist will show up and that is all that matters. Spread the word about this shameful debacle.

Whats the word with Oroville? anyone been there before?
Re: 1st Annual Bay Area Reggae Fest July 17-19 2015
July 18, 2015 05:14PM
So this morning over breakfast, i saw in a flash what went on there this weekend. It reminded me of a cocaine addicted stock broker i used on the floor of the Pacific Coast Exchange years ago. She would do a trade that she was hopeful she could make money on, then park it in a customer account for one day until that client saw it, then move it to another account for one day, and so forth, waiting for it to become profitable. Problem is, when it didn't she got busted and lost her job.

In this case the irresponsible show producer never had the money to pay the artists. I'm going to be generous with royalniss and assume that what is said above on the FB post is true, so the producer talks royalniss' firm into fronting out the money for airfare and artist deposits. Lets say that all those artists that royalniss said would come had actually been paid deposits, which i'm guessing some were.(jr reid, romain virgo, and gyptians band were apparently in the building). So said producer leaves a full schedule of artists on the website and schedule to try and attract money to the show, ie ticket sales. I don't believe there were more than 100 or 150 paying folks there on friday, probably more than half of whom bought tickets in advance. So the producer knew that ticket sales were terrible. I'm sure he paid off some old loans that were holding a gun to his head with the advance ticket sale money, so when the show came around they were praying for a lot of folks to show up and buy tickets.

So when i pulled up at 6.30, Andre, the guy putting on the show, knew darn well he had no money to pay the acts, and even a child would know they would not perform if not paid. He listened to my speech about videotaping and me asking for a press pass, showed no interest until i said that i was buying a ticket. Then they tried to talk me into buying a three day, but fortunately i had not brought cash for that. they did give me an artist band and let me in the back way with my equipment. When there was no rush for tickets, there was no money to pay any artists, hence no performances. Heck, the venue must have cost more than the ticket sales for friday.

Because the producer never had any money in the game, all he had to lose was his reputation, which he is apparently not worried about. He ends up with exactly what he started with, nothing. Royalniss, acting as booking agent, loses money they extended to artists and airfare money unless they can get this back from producer. lol. And their reputation is sullied also, probably with those artists too. And every fan who bought a ticket is out money, travel time, hotel, food, etc. Mystic Man Productions is responsible, this guy Andre apparently.

Andre, like my cocaine addicted broker, was betting it all on the success of this festival. So everyone loses.

Royalniss, did you really think that there was money to pay these artists?

This is my version of the story, i haven't talked to anyone involved about it, but i'm willing to bet that i'm not far off.

Love that reggae!
Re: 1st Annual Bay Area Reggae Fest July 17-19 2015
July 18, 2015 05:28PM
Pretty much ....no USVI acts on this show either , word must have spread you have to hustle your own hard tickets to get paid to perform.
This is an actual formula these scheisters are using, they would promote Beenie, Capelton, Or Sizzla as headliner at the previous inconflation and the artist would have to come out to dispute it and say they won't be there so their fans weren't disappointed.

This FaceBook post should clear up any questions regarding whether anything will be happening at Crane Pavilion for the rest of the weekend:

With a heavy heart and depleted soul we offer our deepest apologies and sincerest regrets. This failure rests solely on our shoulders, and we take full responsibility for our inability to make good on our word. We offer no excuses as there is NO EXCUSE for not keeping our word. This Bay Area Reggaefest has been cancelled because we could not make good on our financial responsibilities. We will work tirelessly to make this right with every soul involved. Our apologies to Reyna Reycines for not fulfilling the promises that we made to her. She was diligent in every way throughout this process, and we ask this community to support her and lift her up. Craneway Pavillion we apologise for not paying you, and thank you for believing in us. The fault rests solely on the Bay Area Reggaefest's shoulders, and there is no one to blame except for us! Mysterious ways are sometimes hard, but we have learned great lessons. Jah Bless

I would like to address the board and answer some of the questions and posts in regards to this weekends flop at the Bay Area Reggae Fest. It is my duty and responsibility to clear the air as far as me being the official booking manager of the event and in regards to the headliners being advertised.
My company Royalniss Entertainment was responsible for booking the following artists at the festival:
Gyptian
Romain Virgo
Bugle
Dexta Daps
Marcia Griffiths
Sister Carol
RDX
Lady Saw
Freddie McGregor
Barrington Levy
Junior Reid

These are the facts:
Each and every one of these artists were contracted through my company and scheduled to perform at the Bay Area Reggae Fest.
Each and every artist was paid a deposit of which I received from the promoters of the festival. I was able to get every artist to record either a video drop or post the festival poster on their Official social media accounts to verify their appearances were genuine.
EACH AND EVERY ONE of the advertised artists for Friday arrived here in California excited and ready to perform the Festival. All except maybe Gyptian who took to Instagram and expressed his disapproval of the transportation the Festival provided to pick him up. Gyptian, Romain Virgo and Jr Reid arrived into town on Thursday evening. Bugle and Dexta Daps arrived early Friday evening. The original Friday line up had Jr Reid starting at 7:30pm and Gyptian as the closing act, but due to travel concerns we had to move Gyptian's start time to 9pm, followed by Romain Virgo then Dexta Daps, then Bugle would have closed the show.
When I arrived at the venue on Friday to collect balance in order to pay my artists, I was given the run around for almost 3 hours, until I was finally told there was no money to fulfill the balances owed for Friday performers and the promoters were waiting on ticket sales in the hopes to pay all the Artists with. Therefore none of the artists took the stage. It's as simple as that. I immediately contacted Lady Saw who I had coming in on a early morning flight booked for Saturday to come into California, to not get on the flight because the promoters had no money to pay anybody. I also contacted the rest of the artists I had booked and let them know what was going on and we cancelled the contracts to come perform at the Festival.
To those who questioned whether any of the performers actually showed up, we'll attendees can at least say they saw Romain Virgo and Jr Reid at the venue waiting to see what the hell was going on, while Gyptian's manager indeed took half of the balance owed to Gyptian after promising and agreeing that Gyptian would perform for half of balance and receive the rest at the end of the night. The amount of money he received is confidential, but was indeed half of the owed balance. Do I blame him...No. Was it a shitty thing to do YES! Did I have knowledge of his intentions...No. He lied to me. The worst part about it, is that the other artists present like Romain Virgo was willing to try and work with what the venue had at the box office that early to try and save the night, but Gyptian's manager left with what could have made that possible. Time is now close to 11pm and the patrons start demanding back refunds. In the meantime I'm on the phone with Bugle and Dexta Daps manager all of whom are waiting at the hotel to come and get picked up to perform. I made him aware of the @#$%&-uation, and we decided that it was best to just pull the plug at that point.
This has been such an embarrassment and disgrace for not only myself, the artists, and the entire reggae community as a whole. Thousands upon thousands of dollars were wasted. Peoples times were wasted. Hard working artist's flew tiring hours of flights in order to make it here to come and work and now have to return back to their homes in embarrassment. I'm so sorry that I had to put these artists through this ridicule, and every one else involved.
It's a real shame. Real shame. I did receive a public apology from the Bay Area Reggae Fest, but that doesn't help ease the pain or stress of what this had caused. I still have to carry my rightfully pissed off Saturday headliners that came in Friday night, namely RDX back to the airport this morning. What a lesson this have been. The plans man has can be struck down at any time.

Thanks for caring enough to come apologize. Painful all the way around. Because i live in Richmond and it seems like in the press few good things ever happen there, i feel it's my duty as a reggae lover to come support whenever there is a reggae show at the Craneway. So i showed up and paid cash and came with all my equipment to film some videos and support the festival. I think i am most sorry for the vendors, who came early and set up and had food ready to go for many more people than showed up. It was s %@$#^ show of course, but with the artists in town it's even more disappointing that someone didn't find a way for at least one or two acts to perform.

In this summer of twelve reggae fests in northern cali, this kind of poor planning and mismanagement don't fly.

Thanks again for your statement.

Love that reggae!

And how dumb is it that they had money to pay a probably 50 percent deposit to so many artists, and none left over to get any of them to really play?

I would have had a one day festival and tested the waters first. Most of the other reggae festivals in the world started small and got bigger. I think that would have been a good idea. No one is going to want to go to the Cranway Pavillion again because of this debacle. It was a super nice venue with great views and a good vibe.

Ya it was, and the stage was big and looked great. And the sound while jr ried's band was doing soundcheck was good for that hall.

I guess the bright side of it is that there were very few of us patrons there to experience the debacle.

ja_lover, it couldn't have been 26000 bucks, they didn't sell that many tickets!

Love that reggae!

Seems like the logical thing to do...if there was enough money for , let's say, artist deposits, airfare, hotels, and per diem then it seems as if all of that money could been directed to actually paying (in full) artists to fill a one day event.

This event was doomed from the moment the promoters declared this was the "1st annual" ...
Pretty sure you gotta pull the initial show off before claiming it is a yearly event...

So smart HighGrade. It's all about how you name it. You don't start with first.

Example: This is my first job. This is my first girlfriend. This is my first car.

None of those sound like it's gonna work out too well in the end. Lol. For reals.

First Annual Bay Area Reggae Festival Cancelled At Last Minute
POSTED BY BILLYJAM, JULY 19, 2015 10:20AM | POST A COMMENT Bookmark and Share

It was being billed as the First Annual Bay Area Reggae Festival and was to take place over this weekend at the cavernous Craneway Pavilion in Richmond. Scheduled performers were to include big names of the genre such as Junior Reid, Gyptian, Marcia Griffiths, Freddie McGregor, Sister Carol, Barrington Levy, and Lady Saw. Tickets for the ambitious East Bay three-day event (July 17-19) were $200 or $75 per day, which, most agreed, was pricey but worth it to see some of the reggae legends booked. However, in the final lead-up days to the reggae festival, rumors had been circulating that advance ticket sales were not good. As with any first-time festival event of this scale, those financially invested in it were getting a little anxious in the days leading up to the festival and those fears were well founded it would turn out.

However all involved hoped that the event, which was being planned by Andre Smith and East Bay promoter/artist Mystic Man, would run smoothly and be the first in a successful annual series of Bay Area Reggae Festivals. But not long after it had just begun on Friday, following sets by two local reggae acts, it looked like the festival might be shut down prematurely. By 10am Saturday morning it was made official when Mystic Man announced that the entire festival was canceled. "We could not make good on our financial responsibilities," was the reason posted to the Reggaefest Facebook page. Headliner Gyptian "took the money and let his fans down, cause he was in the building," posted Mystic Man to his personal Facebook wall yesterday. He also accepted "full responsibility for what happen at the festival," promising to refund money to all involved and suggesting that those who bought advance tix via credit card would have no problem in getting their money back by reversing the transaction. For all involved, from the promoters to the artists to the fans, and especially to the vendors out of pocket, the festival cancellation is a dreaded scenario (pun intended) that has left everyone unhappy.

"The promoter put it on and really just didn't have enough money to pay the artists. One of the [main] artists was paid a partial fee and the other ones were given deposits but not given the rest of the money. So then pretty much all of them banded together and decided not to perform. That was on Friday night and they all simply refused to perform. And that was it!" said Kiaran Cheevers (aka DJ Kure All) who was both a scheduled Festival performer and a representative for his employer CBCB who were among the festival sponsors. Cheevers was at the event location in Richmond from early in the day Friday and witnessed firsthand the reggae artist strike. "Romain Virgo, Bugle, Dexta Daps, and Gyptian were among the ones that were at the venue but refused to perform on stage due to the payment issue." said Cheevers adding that, once it was clear that the artists had refused to perform, promoter "Mystic Man went on stage to try and explain the situation to the audience and it nearly created a riot."

No riot occurred but since then unhappy festival participants - especially vendors who had invested a lot of time and money - have been venting on the promotor's Facebook page demanding compensation. One named Tracey Bell-Borden demanded back the $500 deposit as well as compensation "for 4 days of lost work and revenue" in a Facebook post this morning. Another vendor named Andrew Trujillo wrote how, "We lost our asses out there in Richmond. My partners are still losing money on this festival. No power was supplied to vendors as promised. We ended up renting a generator for the weekend at a 100 plus a day. So they have to stay till monday to return it. The only rental place that had one is closed till Monday. Two more nights of room rentals and food in a town they aren't familiar with. Unbelievable!!!"

I reached out to Mystic Man for comment but so far no response. For updates visit the official Festival website, The Bay Area Reggae Fest Facebook page, and/or Mystic Man's page.

Love that reggae!

Omg. The vendors lost their a$$ off. That is so incredibly sad. They could have done another festival and been ok. Brutal.

Hey "DJ" and "Vendor", I wish I would have known this info. Any time I see Music Man or Royalniss name in a ticket, I'm buying tickets at the door with a visa ... Or might not go at all. Unfortunate or not.

so i dont get it... the board is littered with all this talk of anti-west, the west is bad, etc etc.

however, there doesnt seem to be any problems employing western aka "Babylonian" conceptions, such as credit cards.. nor do the boardies have any problems using these western financial tools to protect ones purchase/investments.

i wonder how much oppression chronnix is feeling when flying first class, with a dyme piece of snazz next to him?
oh but didnt he say the west isnt the place, but send him home a east ?

lets discuss...
