1. wailing souls - got to be cool

"like the trees planted by the rivers
i shall not remove
like the birds singing from the tree tops
la la la i love you"

simply genious!!!!

2. gladiators - jah works

"i'm a man of prayer
none of my doings shall never go wrong"

babylon crumble, stumble and fall from that line alone!!!!

3. wailers - small axe

"these are the words of my Master
no weak heart shall prosper"

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4, mighty diamonds - i want to know

"where has marcus garvey gone
i want to know where my brother gone"

very touching lyrics for me.. as i see marcus garvey as the one who held the only solution for the plight of those african
children. rise up, have integrity and honor amongst one another.. from that point, come back to the world stage as a force to respect.
as it is, nothing but begging and shenanigans.

5. viceroys - we must unite

"we must unite.
brothers stop fooling around"

speaks for itself...

yeah tough one... as i can easily pick more than 5.. especially knowing that my top 5 all are equal to me.. meaning, my number one choice would have to be all of my top 5, then for number 2 have another list of 2 or more.

The question is how can you pick just 5. I am happy with my 5 but could easily add Culture, Twinkle Brothers, Steel Pulse but the biggest was Israel Vibrations that I left out, maybe should have put them in over the Congo's but I love the Congos too and hope to see what is left of them touring someday.

Black Uhuru! How could I forget them???

My first reggae festival, the show I will never forget at ROTR was Don Carlos with Sly and Robbie performing a classic Black Uhuru set! I instantly fell in love with the culture, the music and the people and been on my journey ever since. Without Bob Marley and the Wailers though I would never had gone to ROTR so they are still my # 1.

I've definitely gotten old school with my reggae. I used to argue with an old school friend about upcoming artists like Anthony B and Buju, now I find myself in the same position my friend had then.
