Maybe they are trying to ride on the coat tails of the GnR reunion tour.

Roots Rock Reggae Fest is a great idea in theory but ....

That is so dumb. LA Guns is 1980s type hard rock band. It is not reggae. The festival is called Oroville Reggae Festival. It's like putting Bunny Wailer at Stagecoach Festival (country). No Bueno.

I bet they headline. Lol.

Consumer beware. Be careful with this fest folks. Last year's running's could've also been called the Oroville "Bait & Switch Fest." Several last minute scratches and unannounced cancellations. Too bad, 'cause the venue--Riffles RV Park--is actually pretty cool. If you go, don't forget to pack the mosquito/bug repellent.

I agree with you Diesel, who are the La guns though? Will they draw that big of a crowd to disrupt the reggae vibes? I am sure plenty will jump down my throat for not knowing who LA guns are but I don't. I was raised in a bubble and when I finally broke out I fell in love with reggae music and only know reggae. That is my weak excuse

Definitely never heard of them Nomo! LOL That picture is kinda creepy to me personally.

Never understood the rock band eye liner thing, can anyone fill me in on how that started?

Ya it's creepy. KISS, Alice Cooper, LA Guns, cmon Rossta8 tell me you didn't listen to that when you were young? Just kidding, i had a friend in Alaska who we would stay with in Anchorage when we went there for swim meets, and he played Alice Cooper constantly. But that was 1973. How could you play I'm Eighteen, Schools Out or Billion Dollar Babies without eye liner while you guillotine the baby dolls?

Love that reggae!

Nope never listened to any of them growing up. Being homeschooled by my mom k-8th grade and then being sent to a private Christian highschool where I graduated with 24 kids did not teach me a lot about music. My parent listened to Amy Grant and Michael W Smith and I remember the first tape they gave me was a DC Talk cassette. The highschool I went to was so strict we could not dance or listen to music and we had chapel every day. My first music experience was in 8th grade hearing sublime at a neighbor friends house and him burning me a copy of it and I hid it under my mattress and would play it when my parents were gone. LOL Then after highschool I found reggae music about 2006. Everyone at my work has a blast playing songs all day and then laughing at me when I have no idea who it is. I am even worse with movies.

According to his drummer, its on, but I know nothing else that matter. I do know that there are nuff other nice artists on the lineup though, and Friday night inna original soundsystem style with artists who's foundation is just that and are family to each other, should be sweet! Garnett turns 15 on Sat and his party is Fri so dont think I will be able to make it in time, but there is still a chance....

No crowd. I counted less than a 100 people there. Nothing had started by 10:30pm and it looked like Soster Carol was going to be the first act (saw her being chauffeured backstage, so I left. What a waste of my ticket money. I'm going to try again today... I hope they sell a few more tickets.

From Ifa Journey's FB page:

"Due to reasons beyond our control LA Guns refused to perform on Saturday night. They did not want to close the show as written in our contract. They wanted to perform an earlier set time which was other artists set time. So they refused to play and left the venue without out us knowing. And it became a misunderstanding. ORRJ Would like to apologize for the disrespect to their FANS and to the ORRJ community."

Re: JUly 22 2016 Oroville jamfest
July 25, 2016 11:05PM
Well, other than the lack of headliners - it was a fun time! Friday night was especially nice with the extended Downbeat session. Tahoearmada, Jah Mikey and myself pretty much had a private history lesson from Tony Screw (as we were the only ones right up front, he was speaking directly to us the whole time)! The "Sister's" trading lines was also epic and got people to come closer. I didn't know Sister Nancy also did the "stumbling" vocals like Briggy does (not sure how else to describe it), but she was on fire.

Saturday I made a trip home to grab Jessica, and made it back in time for Hempress Sativa, although we didn't get back into the music bowl until Pato was going. His set could have (and should have) been quite a bit longer. IGrade and Akae Beka were doing their thing when we ran out of energy and wandered back to camp, but glad I got to hear Live the Life You Love - one of my favorites. Left early on Sunday (by which point I kinda figured Ken Boothe was going to be a no show). Had a fun time

There was another rock act on the lineup: Dark Roses, local Oroville youth that played rock/metal covers. Ifa is promoting them, but it was definitely a weird switch-up in the middle of reggae music. It was kinda entertaining to hear a RH Chili Peppers tune, but the singer needs serious work. It was after a few songs that I decided to make the trek home.

Cancellations aside, it's a really nice venue. Hopefully they get a little more organized next year. I'll post some pics later on

Ok, so these are the people that flaked Saturday? What a nightmare. Bait and switch in full effect again??? No headliners played? That sucks.

Bunny Wailer
Lutan Fyah's band
LA Guns

Who played after 10 PM? Did Akae Beca play till 1 AM?
Re: JUly 22 2016 Oroville jamfest
July 26, 2016 12:49AM
So who backed Lutan?
Re: JUly 22 2016 Oroville jamfest
July 26, 2016 04:49AM
Lutan played with who he was expected to play with, the Dub Market band that included Tippy (of I-Grade) on Keys.
While I have a number of thoughts both good and bad about the experience and how it was run, that I most likely will express at some point but dont feel to at the moment. I will say that to call it a bait and switch festival is pretty out of order, as both Bunny and Ken Boothe not being there was not the festivals fault, nor the only shows they didnt do. I think in general, if ones were more supportive and less quick to judge, there would be a lot more chance of these small events growing to something greater, as it takes a whole heap of time, effort, money, support, a team and so much more to pull it off (speaking from a decade of producing shows). Bunny (or his booking agent) also canceled a sold out show at the Sweetwater, 3 hours before showtime, which is totally wrong and unprofessional, and the kinda crap that gives reggae a bad name with venues and promoters, making it that much harder for the nuff other hard working artists...
Re: JUly 22 2016 Oroville jamfest
July 26, 2016 06:37AM
Iriemon called it early in this thread: "beware".

Sorry Haile Bless. My bad. You are correct. The original "bait and switch" was North West Reggae Festival in Oregon. They put artist on the bill that were "never" going to play.

The problem here and now with this festival is that artist have a track record of NOT showing up (last year and this year). That is a really big deal because people have to travel super far to get to Oroville. Also, there are no refunds. That is a ton of trust...and trust is earned.

When the artist stop showing up to a certain festival time and time again, the word spreads quickly and people lose interest (and respect). That stuff has rarely happened at Reggae on the River or Sierra. It did happen at that Richmond festival 2015, which was the biggest blunder in reggae history. It's really weird that festival in Richmond was the exact same weekend as this festival last year. What are the odds? Having two headliners not play on the same night, which happened at this festival Saturday night, is the worst thing that can possibly happen.

I am so incredibly sorry those two bands flaked. I hope that you guys can recover. I heard the venue was dope.

Is there anyone out there that can fill us all in on who played Saturday night since the two headliners flaked. Did anyone play past 10 PM?
