Brotherly Love - An Old School New Style Modern Roots Mix
February 20, 2017 08:55PM

About 4 years after my latest full modern roots mix and with an increasing amount of released modern roots with a traditional touch I decided to go into it again and make this type of releases the focus of a new mix. Love those sounds, that need to be heard, so here it is. 79 minutes, modern roots releases but with a more traditional sound and instrumentation. Sometimes recycled old riddims, sometimes newly played riddims. Clear influences of 60s (rocksteady), 70s (roots, instrumentals, dub) and early 80s (rub-a-dub) Jamaican music. Tunes included date from roughly the last decade, but the majority from the last 5 years. Those claiming to not like contemporary reggae, think again after hearing this! smiling smiley Old School New Style!
Mix in the usual BMC style: no full tunes, one continuous mix with some added soundsamples. Mixcloud only. With Brotherly Love!

Thanks all, appreciate it.

Yes bigvein, the tracks with that Black Ark(ish) sound are from the Breadwinners and Pura Vida, productions from UK and Belgium. So many good tunes out there that need to be heard.

something about these old style riddims that put me in a good mood.

<ramblings>

i tracked this and burnt to cd so i can play back in my vehicle.... i hate doing the forward/reverse thing using my e-device when i want to hear a certain track.. tracking and burning to cd is much more convenient in the long run.. just some

it's amazing how a few select producers/mixers are able to re-create that black ark sound.

it's not easy to pull off, replicating that truly unique sound so closely...it's more than just intense phasing! so many have tried, but few have succeeded, imo.

anyhoo, great mix marc.

Thanks! Yeah, especially the Breadwinners (Al Breadwinner) nailed that sound. I've had long time Perry fans fooled by thinking it was actually Black Ark. Love it.
