I am confused - the article say this happen in 2002 - then right below it talks about Mykal playing a show in NY this year? I like what it says at the top - The Dancer, the Duck and Lauryn Hill? I would be buying that...

That confused me also, but they said he is the "star" of the show, not that he will be performing. Kinda how reading of Mumia Abu-Jamal's works at conferences make him the "star" tho he isn't actually in the building.

Good point, Ras-James. If they do a benefit for a convicted rapist, surely Mr Rose deserves the same respect. Since WBAI is part of the NY benefit, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for KPFA to weigh in on the issue. Hmmm....

Are you refering to Jah Cure Chimino? If so I am surprised to hear someone throw that out there in such context. I know he was convicted of rape, but after hearing his lyrics I got so much love for that youth, guilty or not. You see, a man can change during his incarceration. I got no problem seeing him serve his sentence, cause I don't know the true story, but I got no problem if they free him up either.

I have a live recording from prison of Jah cure, it is not the best quality but still amazing... in a recent interview I read he has not released anything new (studio anyways)....but he has been writing so many songs and is roaring to get out and stun the reggae world! There's only a couple peices of Jah Cures released music I don't have already. Well familiar with everything he's put out. No matter when it came from or who heard it first, it ain't like he's dead. He's just in jail.

Stevo, I agree...I do enjoy Jah Cure's music also. I'm not sure if he's guilty or not. From what I understand the girl was 16 and he was 17 at the time, along with other extenuating circumstances.
But my point being in a PC town & venue like Berkeley & Ashkenaz, Jah Cure still got his benefit, so it seems Rose and his struggles would be a shoe in for such an event (with its linkage to the Patriot Act & all).

who said anyting about JAH being dead. in cure's case just waiting for a fresh slate. -RASpects+
