What about Lady Passion? Except for what I have read in this board, I know nothing of her, but idrens here had nothing but niceness to say about her performances with some of the VI crew in their Norcal tour last year. Does anyone know a link to a sample of her music? Power to the Empresses!

I should add Jr Kelly to that list too.

Spear, certainly. Ras Michael, yes. Israel Vibration, of course. Culture. Everyone should keep in mind that "Roots" legends are not forever. Jimmy Cliff? How about Bunny Wailer? I know I am an old man, but still.

Re: 2006 artist requests

My top 5 of 2005 for SNWMF wish list:
Michael Rose
The Nazarenes
Warrior King
Junior Gong with Stephen Marley
Mr. Bassie Campbell w/ All Stars

Another 5 for '06 Fest
Burning Spear
Misty In Roots
Albert Griffiths introducing his son
Groundation
Bambu Station Crew

Plus
Turbulence
Abijah, Phil and Dion backing up new talent like Blaak Lung
the Congos
Ras Michael
Freddie MacGregor
and yes the Empresses such as Dezarie

And yes, it does my heart sad not to include the Abysinians, Israel Vibration, Culture but these folks have all played the clubs and/or festivals this last year and understand need to make room for those under 50 to keep the roots flowing. Luciano see everytime and again can have only so many repeats from last year. I missed Groundation last year due to extra ordinary circumstances, so they are not a repeat from my narrow perspective.

Last year's festival was great. Especially the Virgin Islands segment: Something about it was mystical. I can't say what is was, but those artist were really really pulling my attention. Maybe it was how tribal they sounded. Like a Tribal reggae, kind of like an old time real roots vibration.
Someone need to tap into this Virgin Islands market. I sure will.

From Batch and the Zioneers, Pressure, Ras Attitude, someone called Bobo, Bambu Station. I would like to also see Mada Nile. WHO IS THIS MADA NILE. After listening to her cd, found at www.soundvizionrecords.com, I have to see the empress behind such a voice.

SNWMF's lineup should include all Virgin Islands artists.
DEZARIE :One of my favorites
RAS ATTITUDE: my new found best Reggae Voice from the Virgin Islands. I think he has a new cd out.
BATCH : Must see again, His lyrics reminds me of BOB. His voice is remarkably hi and piercing to the heart. Nice backing Band
BAMBU STATION : Gots to comeback
ARMY: Incredible. That all I have to say. Well maybe more.
MADA NILE: I'LL pay twice to see her out here.
PRESSURE: Bust pipe
I've already soaked up my Midnite Band. So I'm ready for more of what these islands have.
Re: 2006 artist requests
January 23, 2006 11:19AM
Reggaedon: I believe you are speaking of "Bobo Ites" (Nuff a dem a Spin de Wheel), who came on stage at one point during the VI Eruption last year to sing one song. Here's a photo of Mada Nile that was taken at Winter Reggae In Paradise earlier this month.

If you really want to see 'all Virgin Islands artists', then you had better make sure to be at the second WRIP festival next January....
Lori
Re: 2006 artist requests
January 23, 2006 11:15PM
I am hoping to be at he WRIP next year ,let that be my "resolution".

Irie mama come to hear da vibes, Jah know.

Earl Chinna Smith
Soul Syndicate band
Earl Zero
U-Roy

Didn't Warren produce the Soul Syndicate back in the 70's?
Couldn't he organize a reunion of that classic sound?
All the musicians are still alive - most of them live in California
Santa Davis
Fully Fullwood
Tony Chin

If you don't know about this historic reggae band, please check out the documentary, Word Sound and Power.

Not only did Warren produce "Harvest Uptown/Famine Downtown" for the Syndicate, he also produced Earl Zero's album "Visions of Love" not too much later. A reunion of Zero & Soul Syndicate would be sweet!
Santa, Fully and Tony are down in SoCal. Enroy "Tenor" Grant, the sax player for the 70s Soul Syndicate, is in No. Cal, I believe he's still playing with the band 'Creation'.-

PYRX

Homegrown in Chico, California, PYRX began their journey in 1999. PYRX (pronounced like the glass) is a five piece group combining reggae, hip hop, funk, rock and soul. Consisting of Blaze1's heady vocals, Chazzy Chaz's chronicly illmatic guitar, Dallas and his sticky icky bass, J.T.'s hashed out bubble sax and Darryl Brown's smokin' drums PYRX melds together an irie sound all their own for the masses to groove on.

You wouldn't hear me complain if either SOJA or Groundation were invited back, but if you're looking for another up-and-coming from the US, Tribal Seeds is a good one- currently on heavy rewind. Solid, conscious youths too.

I was all about Nasio not too long ago. I can remember talking about how his album "Living IN The Positive" reminds me of Bob Marley works. He was great at ROTR I think 2 years ago. Definitely enjoy his music and think Sis Irie might be on to something.
