Sunday is Jazz

Monday, Memorial Day, is Reggae, thats the way its been for probably ten years.

I havent been in a several years, but it was very crowded back then when the cost was free or $3.

Although its now $15, still a bargain, and its free to thousands of UCLA students, so, if you go I suggest you get there early, it will be crowded.

Machel Montano and Xtatik put on a great show at UCLA
on Memorial Day in front of a huge crowd of probably 20,000
on a warm and sunny day. His show was scheduled to start at
4PM but before I knew it, he was out there early at 330PM
and there was a crowd of 20 deep in front of the stage by the
time I got up there. The band and Machel and Peter C. Lewis
were all dressed in black and performed many of their hits
such as Footsteps, Carry On, Tay Lay Lay, Is Carnival, etc.
First time Ive ever seen them do Footsteps, the big 1998 hit.

About half way through the show Machel brought out his secret
weapon, the Japanese Dancehall Queen, Junko "Bashment" Kudo;
To the tune Kock and Roll Back, Junko proceeded to wine while
standing on her head, a sight to behold indeed. Then the
crazy part...with her high heel boots on, she climbs the 40 ft
stage tower, hooks one leg around the top beam, hangs upside
down and wines to the music...one of the most bizarre and by
far the most dangerous stunt Ive ever seen. She struggled
a little to recover getting upright and I was truly
concerned for her safety at that point. My God, I bet the
UCLA Organizers were having a fit at that point, as without
a doubt, they would never have allowed that stunt had they

Anyway, she got down safely and Machel closed out his show with
this years big hit, Craziness. Great show and entertainment,
my only regret was his show was kinda short, I think it was about
40 min., although I didnt time it.
