Representing the none english under forty side of baf board I will say if you want to KNOW reggae music and FEEL reggae music I havent found a better place, and as far as the generalizations that people seem to be making about us (rich, souless, english, fat, crumpet eaters) I would expect more from serious reggae music fans than that sort of ignorant labeleling. If you want to make friends who will share all they know and feel about reggae music I would suggest changing your attitude and opening your minds a little bit, you never know you might end up hearing a dusty old 45 and saying to your self "wikkid" (sp)!

Dont be so lame,

Respect, and It should go w/o saying, given the long and serious involvement of dis music in England, very very damn few of us(if any) couldn't benefit from some schoolin' via the Brits when it comes to reggae...

Interesting comments about the use of hack Patois on the B and F board,... frankly I don't see that over there too often, a little maybe, but nothing in comparison to this board where West Coast New Age Rainbow Warrior Crystal Divination & weed driven self engrandisement mixes with predictible stock footage Dreadlock nodding mutual mutual congratulation. AND a distinct paucity of knowledge, fequently illustrated by interpersonal rudeness and name calling over and above talking about music.

At least at B and F music gets discussed, the love of it, for the collecting of matrix numbers has a sideline that I think youse Yankee Bwoys are forgetting... you just got to listen to the tune as well. See if you hear a tune by a producer that you suddenly fall in love with, it's going to be a fat balding Englishman who points you in the direction of the next tune by the said producer.... and you will be very greatful!!! ;-)

I often pop in here to have a look see but there's rarely anything going on that truly engages my mind, some skanky dreadlocked teenager asking yet another plodding question about something even he should already know the answer to, statements about how Sex Sells in music for discussion for example, and more original and thoughtful ideas like that,...!

And just to quote....

'He Who Knows It - Feels It' - - - - - - - - BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOm

Love,

A Fat Balding Englishman (who unlike most a you guys, knows something about the music you say you love).

See if you hear a tune by a producer that you suddenly fall in love with, it's going to be a fat balding Englishman who points you in the direction of the next tune by the said producer.... and you will be very greatful!!! ;-)///

Exactly -- and that is why that whole British 30 -- 45 white , balding, trainspotter reggae club is so f***ing dull and pointless -- to choose an anlaogy with other "scenes" it is just like, somewhere in some little village in southern or northern england, you can be sure there is a "punk lives" festival going on, perhaps near Romford, or Suffolk, or Keighley...where loads of men get together, drink beer, play "rare versions" of Damned songs to each other, and whitter on about how punks not dead, and how they remember once seeing some minor star from Slaughter and The Dogs/ The Electric Chairs or something, and he's now running a little hotel in worthing.... then they whip out some "rare cut" to an x ray specs tune or something, and all sing along....

I am not being snobby or elitist--There's nothing wrong with it essentially-- but It is all so traditional, backward looking and to some of us, boring, and not something we consider the essence of reggae was all about anyway....just as the above scenario is not, to many what punk was ever about...

That's the BAF middle aged beer drinking trainspotter crowd for you, and no, I most certainly wouldn't ask any of them for advice about music ( the current posters anyway ) ....not unless i wanted adivce about a dance for the exclusively white over 30's playing a zillioneth version of a boring bunny lee tune, or adivce about a new steppers tune currently going down well in Switzerland , or a bashment tune doing well in a vialeg in Norway....

aint nothing esentially wrong with the above...but it isnt my taste, just as finding out about the latest "punk lives" festival in Todmorden or a town in Latvia or moldova is my interest....

I always thought reggae was fresh, unconventional and exciting...its not personified well by the current frequenters of the BAF board....

Weed - I think the reason that so many of us celebrate JA music from the 60s and 70s is because it was, and still is, as you put it "fresh, unconventional and exciting". Incidentally I don't really see the point of a critical post like yours. After all, a few enthusiasts exchanging information and experiences isn't such a bad thing, is it ?

Worryingly I tick nearly all the boxes of your B&F profile;
British - Yes
30 -- 45 - Slightly older in fact
White - Yes
Balding - Yes
Trainspotter - Probably

...but does it really matter ?

Re: very interesting!

No Dave there is nothing essentially wrong with it -- but the BAF board is increasingly patronised by a "get yer tits out fer the lads" , beer swilling, parochial crowd. It used to be a minority over there -- now its the majority, with silly pics of tits and pu**ies, and the en zillioneth silly question about a long lost 2nd rate Keith Hudson 45.

It is now dominated by single males obsessed with the hundred millioneth version of boring Glen Brown/Don Drummond tunes -- which no one bought "back in the day" anyway becaue they werent the artists' best work at the time anyway, or it is domintated by the kind of people from small towns in Sweden buying new european roots and calling it wikkid steppers , or people who buy bashment for their "sound systems" in a village in Latvia, or new roots bands from Swindon or Barcelona or somewhere, doing a version of Glen Brown's "Slaving" ( what the fu** is the point of the latter? Isnt this like heavy rock bands doing endless versions of old Jimi Hendrix tunes? Fer f*** sake! )

Nothing essentially wrong with it -- but you'd have to see why it also aint attractive to some folk.

Look at all those ridiculous teenage, boys own porno gazing snigger snigger pics that predominate on the bAF board now for a start! Small wonder people like Steve Barrow and Bob Harding, the label's founders can't bear to post there now.

Alright, over to you BAF lot for a zillionmore posts about a boring "lost tubby's rarity" a "wikkid shaka tune ( TTTuuuunnnneeee maaan! Rewind ! )" or more pics of ( snigger snigger ) some big tits, willies and sado masochists.

Now, Where can i buy that hundred millioneth repress of yet another f***ing dull Upsetter tune with a slightly different cow mooing sound on it? Tuuuunnnneeee! Reeewind..
