i hope barry brown has not pased on, he is one of my biggest inspirations, barry, hugh mundell and lacksley costell have the sweetest vibe, barry is the last of these 3 style singers....

What a sweet voice, R.I.P.....for anyone w/o any of his music, Barry's most influential song 'far east' is on the new VP collection of Channel One music.

D...where can I find some Lasksley Costell on cd?
Re: early reports that Barry Brown has passed away
June 03, 2004 10:40PM
Pretty much nowhere. The only stuff available is miscredited to Hugh Mundell on the Prince Jammy-produced "Jah Fire" album, which was recently reissued on CD on the Black Arrow label. Great album, I suggest you pick it up, although I haven't listened to this particular issue and so I don't know what sound quality is like . . .

I stumbled across 3 CDR's full of his works. I haven't been able to digest it all. I need a nice long road trip, maybe to a festival in CAsmiling smiley

Fish, I already own the "Jah Fire" cd. I can't really tell which songs are Hughs/which are Lacksleys. They both sound so much alike.

only songs # 2,3,4 are hugh mundell.....
pretty crappy to list Hugh as the main artist & also spell Lacksley's name wrong.
album is mostly Lacksley.

No wonder I can't find any of his vibes. Every time I see his named spelled Lasksley.

Does anyone have any idea where I can find Barry Browns "Sensimilla"?

Re: early reports that Barry Brown has passed away

its been spelled both ways, and more too, but i like the locksley vibe best.

isnt that barry brown tune on the "showcase" album on abrahams in the usa and i think soul jazz in the uk? (note: no its not) even if its not, thats one great album, far more consistent than any others though far east on channel one is pretty solid too. rich man poor man on moll selekta is only fair imo. another one to check, this time in a modern do - over style (but still roots to the bone) is mafia and fluxies "reggae heights".

dont see that song youre looking for anywhere though. i believe its on one of a batch of cdr's i have though probably sourced from a 12" single.

how about Barry Brown and Johnny Clarke sing Roots and Culture? great tunes on that - funny how the clarke tunes have slightly different names than the same tunes on Blood and Fire 76-78...all great tunes though..

i like that Thompson sound release as well

wicked tune Running Star is on Stand Firm which I don't own....maybe the entire album isnt the best but i may pick it up for that tune.....

all the stuff you mentioned is top notch of course
