Why not Animal Farm?

No way Anvil, trite little book with too much obvious plot and all the beasts as ciphers really. Swiftian maybe, but strictly for juvenile tastes.

Animal Farm and 1984 were last two Orwell's books, writen when the author was quite ill (In that time he'd been living on a lonely island in the Hebrides).

Re Animals farm: no parable was written since Gulliver's Travells equal in profundity and mordant satire to Animal Farm.

P.S.

Orwell is a kind of missing link between Kafka and Swift.

Not profound at all in my opinion Joran. The characterisation is feeble and all the animals do exactly what you expect. I liked the book when I was 16 but I was so much older then I'm younger than that now.

"The characterisation is feeble and all the animals do exactly what you expect".

Well Mr Reel, 27 centuries after Aesop its not surprising at all. I admit that I have no idea what the 'human condition' is, but in Orwells work I recognise the author's genuine solitude and despair about that very same 'human condition'.

Wonder who woulda been Orwell's favorite reggae singer??? Sound system??

Having been of that over-educated generation that read way above their social standing, Mr Orwell was an early influence on my world-view. I can even recommend
Hitchens' 'Why Orwell Matters' for real fans needing essays pertaining to the
just mentioned title.

But still...who woulda been Orwell's fave DJ??

All deejays are equal, but some are more equal than others.
