The Pain Of Being Bob Geldof

I sit on the banks of the Tigre and hang my head in despair
Oh the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I live in an old Gothic priory and exist on water and air
And the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I'm invited to all the right parties and shunned by the people there
The pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I'm angry, forthright, outspoken, my soul is a wasteland laid bare
While the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

My current world tour is asell out; my name is known everywhere
And the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

My face is on every poster, my statue in every square
Where the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I may even one day be Sir Robert or knighted Lord Geldof of Clare
And the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I'd go to Biafra tomorrow if someone should pay my fare
Oh the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

For I'm saving the lives of millions in a world that just doesn't care
That the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

And although I am saving millions, I'm alas not a millionaire
When the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I'm down to my last soya biscuit, so if you've got 5p to spare
Forthe pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

I sit on the banks of the Tigre with carefully tousled hair
Oh the pain of being Bob Geldof is a weight that is too great to bear

As you know, I think you are a boring old fart, but I do remember reading this in the NME 'back in the day' (ackkhh) and being amused by it.

And it's still "on the point" today, Richard :-)

Yes, Ekki

Now, I'm not a man of words, such as the author is, or our friend Mr Grumpy is, so this is probably not grammatically correct, but I always thought it would have read better thus:

...a weight too great to bear

rather than

...a weight that is too great to bear

Just reads better to me, but then I'm just an uneducated oik so what do I know?

Dramatical reasons, just read it loud Richard.
And come on, I'm a German and really not able to discuss English grammar and poems. I'm just happy when I have an idea, what it is all about :-)
