Proper Overstanding

Proper Overstanding

Zephaniah 2:12 - "Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword."

Zephaniah 1:1 - "The word of the Lord which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Ammon, king of Judah."

I would like some of my true Ras Tafari brethren to give me an opinion as to what you think about these verses. Personally, it tells me that my ultimate goal in life, which is to repartriation to Shashamane, Ethiopia, would be wrong despite my intentions to seek ultimate righteousness there. I really would like some input from the true scholars.

I specifically asked for "true ras tafari" and "true scholars" to give me input on this subject, this site is viewed daily by many, many people - I'm sure of it

I'm not a biblical scholar or a rasta, but I think you're taking it out of context. He is describing the wrath of God upon everyone, everywhere, and verse 12 is added simply to include Africans (which if you follow the David > Sheba > Menelik belief, is a place of interest to the almightly). I've never seen it written as "Ethiopians" before - usually Cushites, but from some research I've done that is was what the eastern peoples called anyone from the nile delta beyond, and Ethiopia was (like Cush) a rather large, vague area to them. (i.e. - the "dark continent"winking smiley

i would agree with dubguy.
scripture needs to be taken IN CONTEXT and as a whole.

and yes you are better off seeking spiritual and scriptural guidance elsewhere.
