Whole Earth Festival Announces its 2006 Music Lineup
March 01, 2006 10:45AM
The 37th Annual Whole Earth Festival is slated to take place May 12-14, 2006 on the campus of the University of California, Davis in Davis, CA. The festival boasts four stages of music and dance, a plethora of handmade crafts vendors and vegetarian food booths, educational workshops, children’s games and craft projects, and a whole bunch of compost! The festival is free for all adults, children, dogs, cats, and any other creatures that wish to attend.

This year’s festival will feature a performance by The Everyone Orchestra, a revolving cast of musicians, artists and activists brought together by drummer/conductor Matt Butler. Everyone Orchestra performances are known for their magical co-creations with the audience as the conductor directs both musicians and audience alike. The addition of The Everyone Orchestra brings the festival back to its roots of creative spontaneity from which the festival was spawned from as an art happening project in 1969. The orchestra
lineup will consist of musicians from Albino!, Delta Nove, and Home At Last among other all-stars pulled from the festival’s musical lineup.

Also on the bill are: Delta Nove, Ten Mile Tide, Albino!, Alfred Howard & The K23 Orchestra, Home At Last, Baba Ken Okulolo & The Nigerian Brothers, Rocker T, Gamelan-X, Taarka, Jason Webley, Hillstomp, Blue Turtle Seduction, Mad Cow String Band, Clan Dyken, Kush & Jah Blood Fiyah Angels, Tempest, Boca do Rio, Saul Rayo & Cocina Del Mundo, Shelley Doty, Jair, !Akimbo, Nada Brahma Music Ensemble, Fanna-Fi-Allah, Dis Moi, Phydeaux, Free Association, and Rebelution. The complete music lineup can be viewed at [wef.ucdavis.edu]

Established in 1969 as the by-product of an art history course taught by Jose Arguelles, the Whole Earth Festival has been in the forefront of environmentally sound events by diverting over 95% of their waste stream from the landfill by composting and recycling. In addition, the festival is one of the few events that will serve your food on reusable wares. The event is completely volunteer-run and does not answer to any corporate sponsors. WEF encourages folks from all walks of life to join their Karma Patrol volunteer crew. Information about volunteering and other aspects of the festival can be found at [wef.ucdavis.edu].

In addition, the festival will be hosting a benefit concert to support its operations on March 31st at the Veterans’ Memorial Center Theatre in Davis, CA. The concert will feature music by SF Bay afrobeat ensemble, Albino!, wonderful organic beer from the Butte Creek Brewery, a bake sale, and plenty of space to get your groove on. More information is available at [wef.ucdavis.edu].

Also, no dis on the WEF, which is full of great music and loaded with information on sustainable living. I performed there with the Roots of Creation in 1977, and the festival was already well established...talk about sustainable!
