Wicked seafood and vegan fair in the Mission. Mostly all sustainable farmed fish with increadible vegan options. Post industrial reuse motif takes me back to my gritty roots. In general a place that tries to hold up a sustainable business in this o so unsustainable city. I have got mad love for that, as that is my work. So we had to check it out.

Some of the best food I have anywhere, and as a x caterer and personal chef, I am a picky one. I generally complain about how much BAD food there is in SF. Some gems, yes like Wierd Fish, but a lot of crap inbetween.

'Dub Qawwali' by Gaudi and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

I've been listening to this on repeat all day...very nice ambient dub with a middle eastern flavor..check for it.

Respect, MK

From the liner notes:

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan passed away 10 years ago but was and is still very much considered to be the greatest Qawwal in the world; not only recognized as a legend in his native Pakistan he also took his musical messages of peace, love and spirituality to the international stage, earning him the title of Pakistan's premier ambassador of Qawwali music.

With Dub Qawwali, London-based producer/artist Gaudi unites one of world's most revered voices with his modern production and dub remix style. The album blends organic and digital dub stylings with original vocals from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The result is a moving body of work that respectfully brings Khan's Qawwali songs together with Jamaican dub via superb 21st century studio techniques.

The use of vintage analogue studio equipment and dub production techniques such as tape echoes, valve amps, Fender Rhodes, spring reverbs, Hammond organ and Moog, characterizes Gaudi's production style, but on Dub Qawwali he revives Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's vocals in a truly distinctive fashion – a vital accomplishment given Khan's stature. The legendary Pakistani artist has inspired the likes of Peter Gabriel, Michael Brook and Eddie Vedder and is in the Guinness Book of Records for having the world's largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist — a total of 125 albums.

uh..in the city? There is a Cafe Gratitude and Judahlishious in SF. Check out yelp.com for others. I think there is another one Urban Forage. Ate there a couple years ago but hoenstly raw is tooooo expensive for me, i sprout my own at home for daily consumption and go to Gratitude on special occasions. Judahlisious has a great raw hemp icecream.

Re: What are you listening to?

No particular reason for the following, other than I was listening in the past
day to:
1. Barrington Levy 'your heart is an open book' 7"
2. Ike Turner 'The New Breed Pt 1 & 2'
3. Marvin Gaye 'Trouble Man' soundtrack(perfect in the car)
4. Cutty Ranks 'Who Say Me Dun' 12"
5. John Meyer 'Continium'
6. Pucho & the Latin Soul Brothers ''How'm I Doin?'
7. Roots Radics 'Dub Landing' Vol. 1
8. Toussaint & the China Band 'Love the almighty high'
(vocalist of Soulive; this is his solo reggae/soul/funk
project )

I HIGHLY recommend Soulive to those who enjoy the jamband esthetic;
the guitarist produces tracks on Kalib Twali, he's a monster on his instrument, plus the other two members of the band are dangerous, in addition to singer Toussaint,
who, upon seeing me talking w/ his fellow band-members, got a big grin on his face & said, 'I MET YOU AT SNWMF!'

Here I Come - Dennis Brown

Love and hate can never be friends
Oh no, oh no

Here I come with love and not hatred
surely goodness and mercy
shall follow I all the days of I life
envy no one no wish to be with no evil man
for there'll come the day
when you'll be whipped by the father's hand

Live up roots children

Live up rasta children

My head is annointed and my cup runneth over
surely goodness and mercy
shall follow I all the days of I life

LUCKY DUBE - Family Ties

Ever since they were born
she was worried about their friends
even when they turned twenty five
she was worried about the company they'd keep
one day it was three in the morning
the door bell rang
she got up in a sweat
blue lights flashing everywhere
the boys in blue standing at the door
the look on their faces scared her enough
before they told her what she was always afraid of

chorus
do you know where your son/daughter is tonight
I'm afraid they won't be coming home tonight

ever since she was brought to this home
she's been cursing every woman with a child
she says they brought to this world the curse
that have stained the good name of mankind
one day it was three in the morning
the guard came running to tell us she's gone
blue lights flashing everywhere
all over again
the boys in blue, looking for her
the look on their faces
scared us enough when they told us to strengthen our family ties

chorus
do you know where your mother/father is tonight
I'm afraid they won't be coming home tonight

Lucky Dube - Jah Live

Jah live Jah children
Let Rastas never die

When everything is going right
They forget about your presents
But when the tables turn upside down
They know that you' re there
To my mom who taught me
That you' re always there
I wrote this little
Song of praise
Now I' m gonna sing

Chorus:
Jah live Jah children
Let Rastas never die

The Rastaman call him Jah
Some people call him Allah
English man call Him God
But he is one
We may have different names
To call him, but he cares
For everyone that' s why I
Wrote this song

Lucky Dube - The Other Side

His name is Jackson
He lives in Jamaica
Every morning he comes down to the docks to watch the ships come and go
he's been here too long
mental slavery has not touched him one bit
he still knows his history, he knows where he comes from
that is why he believes the ocean can give him answers
about the very very far home
that he's never been to. All his life he says
I wish I was home, I wish I was in Africa (x2)
I have seen his world
I've seen the other world. I have nothing to say
I put my coat on my shoulders
as I walked away, I heard myself sing

chorus
The grass is greener on the other side
til you get there and see it for yourself (x3)

His name is Themba
He lives in Soweto
every morning he goes to the airport to watch the planes come and go
He has changed his African name to a western one
cause he doesn't know how it hurts to have a name
you can't be proud of. He hopes that one day
one of these birds of the sky can take him away
to a very very far land
running away from the very roots
that so many black people in the world
are wanting to come back. A place they call home
they wish they were home
they wish they were in Africa (x2)
I live in his world, I've seen the other world
I got nothing to say
I put my coat on my shoulders
as I walked away, I heard myself sing
