Oh nice, might have to be there to see that one...

whole heap a ginnal out deh.

yes, bun, this one is a must! if all i caught was a one hour set from earl 16, i would still consider the festival a success and well worth the drive.

i still kind of can't believe it. i don't want to think about two of the other huge artists i'd dreamed of seeing, and what happened as the date drew near...two names...bim sherman & junior delgado.

give thanks for life.

On this musical link is a song called 'Rise in the Morning'...

To my ears this sounds like a Yabba You production but RKR says it's a Roy Cousins thing.

Great song either way, but wonderin if anyone else hears a Yabba You sound?

Good score SN - Earl 16 could play for hours and not bore me.

children rise aka world has just begun. a channel one production, that one is from a 10" single on trench town label but it was previously available on 12" and lp on cha cha label in the uk and probably before that in ja on channel one or hitbound or one of those associated labels.

i dont think yabby you had anything to do with it but i could be wrong.

glad you like the selection.

Thanks JB - I must be getting things mixed up then - at the start of the song he said something about 'rise WITH the morning sun' - so that's why I thought it was 'Rise in the Morning' but now that I know about the Childern Rise title - its probably a screw up on my part...[it's also called World Has Just Begun??? now I really give up! ;-)

I still can't get the Yabba You part out of my head though ;-/

mad professor produced two sets with him so those would be the most appropriate:

earl 16: babylon walls

1. Babylon Walls
2. Listen Rasta
3. Freedom Now
4. Rasta Man
5. Marcus
6. A Love That I Can Feel
7. A Woman Got Soul
8. Miss Tulley
9. Children Rise
PRODUCTION
PRODUCED BY: Mad Professor
RECORDED AT: Ariwa
MIXED BY: Mad Professor
MIXED AT: Ariwa REVIEW
Some of Earl's classic roots compositions, inna Mad Professor stylee!

MUSICIANS
BACKING VOCALS: Black Steel, Earl Sixteen
BASS: Black Steel, Mafia
DRUMS: Robotiks, Fluxy
GUITAR: Black Steel
PIANO: Black Steel, Mafia
SYNTHESIZER: Black Steel, Mafia

earl 16: wake up

1. Blackman
2. Awake
3. Nyabinghi
4. Militant Woman
5. Ebony Eyes
6. Superpeople
7. Hail Him
8. We're All In This Thing Together

DRUMS: Sly Dunbar
GUITAR: Steel, Jeffery Beckford
HORNS: Dean Fraser, Richard Doswell, Winston & Niles
PIANO: Steel, Victor Cross, Dwayne Burke
ORGAN: Steel, Victor Cross, Dwayne Burke
PERCUSSION: Steel, Sky Juice

however i prefer his earlier stuff like:

song for a reason

1. Song For A Reason
2. Crisis
3. Rise In The Morning
4. Sailing
5. When Will I Get Pay
6. Jah Is The Master
7. Mighty One
8. Inheritance
9. Good People
10. Reggae Rock
11. Ginal Out There
12. Monday Morning

(though i have not heard this particular release, i know some tracks on it)

and a lot of currently harder to find releases like

earl sixteen: not for sale (next step ja)
earl sixteen: songs of love and hardship (kingdom)
earl sixteen: shining star (vista sounds uk)
earl sixteen: super duper (jr/hitbound usa)

and phoenix of peace which is largely if not entirely lee perry/black ark productions (though some claim it is of dubious origin, i like it the best of any i have)

and any of these 12" and 10" singles from ernie have merit
