Regarding St. Croix Artists:

One thing a festival allows(or should, if producer & artist takes heed), is to
formulate/allow concepts and presentations you would not normally get
in the normal club/concert format. In other words, why not have a
'St Croix Meets Jamaica' set @ SNWMF where you would see these
upcoming artists interact w/ Jamaican singers/DJs? It would require the will
to make the interaction work on the part of the musicians, of course.

Having someone like Charlie Chaplin, Ranking Joe, U-Roy, etc, chatting over
the riddems of these bands who love the one-drop could be sweet, and something
new. Midnite Meets Big Youth---could work, if there was the desire.

well, the way I see it Midnite is not really the "band," Midnite is Vaughn Benjamin, and some musicians... from St Croix...

but now, bring Bambu Station, D.A.P.P., Zioniers, Inner Visions, or Reggae Bubblers and match dem with the Big Youths, U-Roys, Charlie Chaplins, Ranking Joe's and so on... now THAT would be wikked!!!

Does anyone on this forum know what any large jamaican artists think about st croix music? Do they even know it exists? I can imagine a lot of big jamaican artists not paying much respect to a relatively new and small scene coming out of another island.

I know luciano and army did a tune together, and i get this vibe when i listen to some lutan fyah songs that hes been influenced by midnite.

Lutan Fyah was quoted an article in "The Beat" magazine as saying that he listened to Midnite 24/7. Also Lustre Kings production is gonna realse the New Day riddim seris some time soon that will feature JA, VI, and Trinidadian artists such as Lutan Fyah, Midnite, Yami Bolo, NiyoRah, Natty King, Ras Attitude, Marlon Asher, Khari Kill and Noble Society.

I think it could produce some very interesting results. If it does happen, Daniel you must point me to the new "barn"... winking smiley
