Re: KBOO REGGAE SHOW
March 28, 2006 04:03PM
as danny says, kboo is in the middle of it's spring pledge drive. the vast majority of dollars coming in to the station is from pledges, and obviously these pledges are the lifeblood of kboo; without pledges from our listeners (and good people like you!) kboo would not be able to remain broadcasting all it's glorious non-commercial fare.

that being said, i'd just like to let folks know that you can pledge your support to our great radio station via the internet. kboo is one of the last remaining community supported, non-commercial radio stations left in our country, and the things kboo does and the resources it offers everyone in the community, are tremendous. just log on (www.kboo.fm), and seek out a prompt for pledge drive, as i'm not sure what the site actually says, but trust me, somewhere is a spot it will ask for your money!!! and if you want to support a particular genre, you can; if you want to support a specific show, you can. any and all dollars are welcome! there are even some goodies to entice you, such as reggae cds or whatnot; i'm not sure these apply to on-line pledges, but would be surprised if they do not.

and if you'd rather pledge over the phone while speaking to a human being spinning reggae music, call during my show tonight and i'd be more than happy to take your pledge. shocks of sheba airs tonight (what kboo calls late-night----but is REALLY early wednesday morning) at 3:00am PST. we're on from 3am - 5:30am PST...(in fact reggae will be streaming from about 9pm PST on; however, i'd love for you to call during shocks of sheba!)

okay, i'm off the soapbox, but i just had to big-up the boo! i've been on the air there 18 years, and even if there was NO reggae at all, kboo is too important a community resource to lose...

Re: KBOO REGGAE SHOW
March 28, 2006 06:03PM
bless up mk, thank you for elaborating on dis crucial issue, sumthin I neglected to do...

yes people KBOO Full Strength Community Radio is like an oasis inna middle of the commercial radio sea... a safe haven for those who like their music, news, public affairs programming, and a lot more to be from a people perspective so to seh, rather than an advertisement/sales pitch angle...

it's radio by the people, for the people and OF the people.... no commercials, no corporate control of what goes out over the airwaves, but nuff space for ANYONE who wants to contribute, in any way, for Ones who want to learn, to teach, and it is all-inclusive...

KBOO Mission Statement
These are the guiding principles behind KBOO Community Radio:
KBOO shall be a model of programming, filling needs that other media do not, providing programming to diverse communities and unserved or underserved groups. KBOO shall provide access and training to those communities.

KBOO's news and public affairs programming shall place an emphasis on providing a forum for unpopular, controversial, or neglected perspectives on important local, national, and international issues, reflecting KBOO's values of peace, justice, democracy, and human rights, multiculturalism, environmentalism, freedom of expression, and social change.

KBOO's arts, cultural, and music programming shall cover a wide spectrum of expression from traditional to experimental, and reflect the diverse cultures KBOO serves. KBOO shall strive for spontaneity and programming excellence, both in content and technique.
