Few things detract from a live show more than bad synthesized horns.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Speak for yourself. I found the article pretty interesting. Thanks for posting it, T.M.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Belly of the Beast! - love this tune. Bonus points for an actual horn in the mix. Where can I get a copy of this?by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
If I remember correctly, Kirk's brain was under the influence of some alien power, so as to make this scene more palatable to the white audience.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Looked like a handspring to me. Still incredibly impressive, particularly considering he kept the mic in hand the entire time. Luci busted that same move out in Frogtown, 2005 - most impressive acrobatics I seen any singer/musician pull off on stage.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I see a lot of big acts lighting up So Cal, and I definitely see some nice gigs hit Santa Cruz that don't come further north. Just in the next few months, I note dates for Don Carlos, Gentleman, Prez. Brown, and Michael Rose in SC, and no shows listed, at least as of yet, any closer to SF or Oakland. I think the fact that these two cities will not be hosting any sort of reggae festival this yeaby Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
The meager reggae scene that the Bay offered has been slowly drying up since the days of the Maritime closing and the death of the S.F. Reggae Fest. Every time I look at an area reggae calendar, I'm struck by how many quality shows Natty Cruz pulls off, and how few we're getting just a little more than an hour north. It's wack, but I guess there's not enough support, i.e. money, for Jah musicby Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
The synthesizer set on horn is unfortunate. Dude should have shelled out the extra for an actual trumpeter.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I remember seeing this album long ago. Who put it out?by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Just watched an episode called "Os Ordinarios" with some killer Brazilian dancehall-type stuff. Looked for the artists but they're not in the credits, and the soundtrack to the general tv show doesn't carry any of the tunes from the episode. Anybody know anything about this?by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Thanks, Daniel. Now to consider whether its worth $23... Bunny claimed that he was going to remaster (primarily to bring out the bass) and reissue his entire catalog, starting with his earliest work. I just don't think that this seems very likely to continue past "Blackheart Man". Still, I was kind of hoping that he would suddenly reissue DubDisco and it would show up at Ernie's forby Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Great tune. Been listening to a lot of Bunny's older works myself recently. I've been combing Bay Area record shops for the past two months looking for Disco Dub 1& 2 on CD to no avail.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
The Fox Theater has been getting crazy props since it reopened last year. The design is killer and the bars are nice, but I thought the sound was absolutely horrible if you were on the floor. From the upper levels, it was better, but the closer you got to the stage, the muddier the sound got - even worse the Bill Graham.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Not surprised other than this type of story was not written sooner.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Columbus was a man of his times, and didn't have good people like you all to correct what we now consider his errant ways. Buju, on the other hand, should have known better.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Gays don't just roll over and forget about an artist who pens a song about killing and mutilating them? Go figure... Do they have something better to do? For many gay folks, I'm sure living in a society that has vilified, ostracized, and discriminated against them has made homophobia an issue that must be confronted vigorously so as to stomp it out forever. Is homophobia still a problem? Jusby Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
A few months back I was thinking how nice it would be to check Purpleman's work. You read my mind. Cheers. Wish there was some way to subscribe to your mixes, BMC, like I was able to on your old podcast. Having it magically arrive on the computer and being able to refer to the track list on the ipod was key. Keep the obscure rub-a-dub coming!by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
With only one artist on the billing, a CA crowd is expecting at least an hour and half of music. Even if he was stiffed by the promoter, using these metrics, you are telling me that he got less than a quarter of his expected money? Whatever the reason why he played 4 songs and bounced, his name is the one attached to the show, and disappointing his fans is not a good business practice. Bottom-by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
My apologies to anyone motivating for this show on my tip. Norrisman showed up late (surprise, surprise) did about twenty minutes and bolted when the crowd didn't sing along with him. Chumps like him make it difficult to rally people to shows.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Although most boardies from the Bay are probably already up in Boonville, there's a Norrisman show at the Throckmorton Theater at 8:30 tonight. The promoters did a really crap job of getting the word out and have poor timing to boot, but I thought that I'd mention it to support the shows in my backyard.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
That's Paul's Boutique - and we're in Brooklyn...by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
While the actual stabbing incident hasn't directly shaken me, I think it speaks, albeit through an exaggerated example, of an unpleasant trend. One of the things that drew me to the fest in the first place, other than the old-school roots performers, was the chill environment. People got their freak while being generally open and respectful to others. Great music - great vibe. Maybe I'm viewiby Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Arrrrrrrrrrgh! #@*%! autotune!by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
...and I like getting up early. What's up with not letting me crank my sound system when I get up at 6 am?!!!!by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Reggae's got a long tradition of reworking, imitating, and just plain copying all sorts of musical forms, and, in some cases, to good effect. As far as that goes, I thought Radiodread was pretty nice, particularly the Toots, Frankie Paul, and Tamar-kali tracks. The dubs are decent as well. This is not JA roots or dancehall. It's a pretty faithful redo of OK Computer, from what I understand,by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Anybody know if Anthony B is going to be backed with a live band for the 19 Broadway show in Fairfax?by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Saw them at 19 Broadway's penultimate show this past Friday. Granted, smaller venue, but no horns. Band was nice, but the Casio kills me.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Now that I've got MR on the brain, what's the significance of the "2 to 12" exclamation that he liberally peppers all of his more recent material with?by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Nice irony on the riff-raff comment. All of the performing artists, with the exception of Marley, would have been considered less than riff-raff in their day before they started selling records. And if you can't swallow blowing $150 on cheap booze and a few hours of music, you can join me in the riff-raff category.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013
