I see a lot of big acts lighting up So Cal, and I definitely see some nice gigs hit Santa Cruz that don't come further north. Just in the next few months, I note dates for Don Carlos, Gentleman, Prez. Brown, and Michael Rose in SC, and no shows listed, at least as of yet, any closer to SF or Oakland. I think the fact that these two cities will not be hosting any sort of reggae festival this yeaby Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013

The meager reggae scene that the Bay offered has been slowly drying up since the days of the Maritime closing and the death of the S.F. Reggae Fest. Every time I look at an area reggae calendar, I'm struck by how many quality shows Natty Cruz pulls off, and how few we're getting just a little more than an hour north. Just watched an episode called "Os Ordinarios" with some killer Brazilian dancehall-type stuff. Looked for the artists but they're not in the credits, and the soundtrack to the general tv show doesn't carry any of the tunes from the episode. Thanks, Daniel. Now to consider whether its worth $23... Bunny claimed that he was going to remaster (primarily to bring out the bass) and reissue his entire catalog, starting with his earliest work. I just don't think that this seems very likely to continue past "Blackheart Man". The Fox Theater has been getting crazy props since it reopened last year. The design is killer and the bars are nice, but I thought the sound was absolutely horrible if you were on the floor. From the upper levels, it was better, but the closer you got to the stage, the muddier the sound got - even worse the Bill Graham.by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013

Gays don't just roll over and forget about an artist who pens a song about killing and mutilating them? Go figure... Do they have something better to do? For many gay folks, I'm sure living in a society that has vilified, ostracized, and discriminated against them has made homophobia an issue that must be confronted vigorously so as to stomp it out forever. Wish there was some way to subscribe to your mixes, BMC, like I was able to on your old podcast. With only one artist on the billing, a CA crowd is expecting at least an hour and half of music. Even if he was stiffed by the promoter, using these metrics, you are telling me that he got less than a quarter of his expected money? Whatever the reason why he played 4 songs and bounced, his name is the one attached to the show, and disappointing his fans is not a good business practice. Bottom-by Shadrack - SNWMF Phorum 2013

Although most boardies from the Bay are probably already up in Boonville, there's a Norrisman show at the Throckmorton Theater at 8:30 tonight. While the actual stabbing incident hasn't directly shaken me, I think it speaks, albeit through an exaggerated example, of an unpleasant trend. One of the things that drew me to the fest in the first place, other than the old-school roots performers, was the chill environment. Reggae's got a long tradition of reworking, imitating, and just plain copying all sorts of musical forms, and, in some cases, to good effect. As far as that goes, I thought Radiodread was pretty nice, particularly the Toots, Frankie Paul, and Tamar-kali tracks. The dubs are decent as well. This is not JA roots or dancehall.
