The best time to be in Jamaica was between 1962 and 1966, when ska ruled the roost and Buster danced it on Orange Street. After that, the United States fronted by Seaga brought in their favourite guns and the island has never been the same. I still remember the Reading Festival in 1976. U Roy and the Might Diamonds were both stoned by the crowd and booed. Promoters Virgin Records had picked the wrong venue, the Reading Festival featured hard rock and heavy metal.
