Ras Bruce is an ANIMAL! He forced me to drink shots of really good hornitos tequila last year at SNWMF and NWWRF! I'm going to be looking for him again this year and hope that he makes me drink more! Seriously, Bruce is a great guy. You couldn't ask for a better wingman if you don't already have a group to travel with.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
So any word yet on who is backing up these classic artists?by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Who is going to be the backing band?by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
QuoteStamina! I'd have to argue that the whole reggae genre is seriously underrated and under-represented in today's music world, whether on the radio, TV or any other media, considering what it's contributed to modern music in general. Arguably, dub, hip-hop, drum & bass, jungle, house and quite a few more directly derived their inspiration from reggae. That's not even mentioning the obviousby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
That's him, papken!by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Black Roots, Jr. Ross and the Spear, Ranking Ann, Sandra Cross, Lovejoys, John Clarke* The OP list is pretty good. Although I think anybody who knows Reggae would rate Keith Hudson pretty highly. Misty in Roots was one of my favorite SNWMF headliners ever. *not Johnnie Clarkeby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
See you @ the PDX show, Ninja! What a great warm up for SNWMF!by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
QuoteDaniel While it is true that Vaughn does lots of albums with other promoters, there are really only 9 Midnite studio albums - Unpolished, Ras Mek Peace, Jubilees of Zion, Seek Knowledge Before Vengeance, Intense Pressure, Scheme A Things, Ainshant Maps, What Makes a King and Anthology. I think you have named all of my favorite Midnite albums. But how can you say there are only 9 Midniby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I can't disagree with much on this thread. Etana is awesome. That duet she did with Alborosie is probably the best male/female duet since Bob and Marcia.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Reggabe, with all due respect, you are just going to have to deal with the fact that not everybody likes Midnite. They still are very popular, but are not everybody's cup of tea. I have to tell you honestly, that I loved them when they first hit the scene, but now think they have been overexposed and sometimes get irritating because so many of their songs sound the same. The last time I went to aby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I don't pay much attention to gossip. I just enjoy the music.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Quoteniceup Those acts bring crowds and money to the festival. That in turn allows the festival to bring in more quality reggae artists each year. I count 23 reggae performances that I would like to see this year. Unfortunately, Damian Marley is the only one of those artists who has close to the draw that SOJA does. Acts like SOJA in effect subsidize acts like Keith and Tex, Iqulah, Stranger Coleby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I'll be sorry to miss K'naan, he sounded interesting from what I heard of his music on the main site. OTOH, SOJA is probably my favorite US Reggae band.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I think you chopped off the last date 7/26. Which if I'm not mistaken is NWWRF.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
QuoteJ_72 No hating, just joking, although I really did take a great nap during their set last time. Actually, I enjoy kicking back and letting one of those "trancey" bands like Midnite or Groundation put me to sleep. The fact that they tend to do so is not, IMHO, a bad thing.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
I love Scratch, but rarely take him seriously.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
QuoteDaniel I'm not sure how Midnite got thrown into the mix given that Jah Mike has already pronounced Hollie Cook to be the 'sleeper' act of this year's festival..... LOL! I was using an entirely different meaning of the word "sleeper" to describe Hollie!by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
No opinion. I haven't read the book and it would be really presumptuous of me to be selecting books for the University of the West Indies as I am not a member of that institution or even a citizen of Jamaica.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Quoterossta8888 Strikkly, I too am so excited for Protoje! Will have the pleasure of seeing him June 14th in Portland right before SNWMF. I only have 8 year affair but every song is amazing. My fiance loves it so much she stole my CD for her car stereo. LOL Thanks for the tip, that looks like it is going to be a great show! With Gappy Ranks no less! A great warm up for SNWMF.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
QuoteJ_72 Can we have Midnite perform? I'm going to need a nap at some point with all these great acts! ROTFLMAO!!!!!by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
QuoteMalcolm People's lists are righteous and ambitious. Must see to me is one per day which is Shaka on Fri., Max on Sat and Errol on Sun Though I'll try to equal or top Walter's numbers (5 on Fri, 11 on Sat & 6 on Sun) even if I won't be able to get up on Monday Music stops at 10PM Sunday evening, shouldn't have trouble getting up Monday. If you do, I'll make sure you are up bright anby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
My list is ismilar to AJ/s. Note these are just the acts that I am most excited about. I expect that most every waking minute will be spent in fromt of one of the two stages or in the Dancehall. Friday Ras Michael Sister Carol Gappy Ranks Jah Shaka Saturday Damien and Stephen Marley and GYC Max Romeo U Roy Cornel Campbell Protoje Sunday Errol Dunkley Keith & Tex Alphaby Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
As an old-school reggae fan I gotta say...I like it! With all due respect, I disagree with Diesel about the Stalag riddim, I think it's a worthy version. The whole album sounds nice, like a lot of love was put into it. The female vocalists were sounding really sweet. I have a really hard time believing Snoop is getting into reggae just as a publicity stunt. The music sounds really heartfelt.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
The one thing that I don't understand is that Sunday has Hollie Cook and Prince Fatty on different stages. I'm pretty sure they will be using the same band. Sunday definitely will be spent running between those two stages.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
How about this?by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013

One of my favorite VI artists. Mon, anymore great reggae and they are going to have to extend the fest to Monday.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
Never get tired of seeing this reggae icon. A great artist and a gracious and humble man.by Jah Mike - SNWMF Phorum 2013
