We try to leave Santa Cruz by midday Thursday, because leaving Friday early a.m. leaves us too spent, too early in the weekend. Friday night can go late, and Saturday is always long. Sunday afternoon/evening is a must. We stay at Hendy Woods and love to just be in Anderson Valley for the whole day on Friday settling in, swimming if it's warm, and catching the vibe. Agreed, AJ. They are all good, but LKJ and Dennis Bovell Dub Band are in another league altogether. I'd travel a long, long way to see LKJ and DBDB play again, and I'll walking the festival grounds, getting food, beer, and my t-shirt on the way to the dancehall when Groundation hits the stage, again....

I know my tastes and preferences are not whining. If everybody thought "there is no doubt of his tremendous abilities as a singer" we would not be having such a pleasant, and spirited, discussion. And I'd buy some more of their music and see their shows when they come through my town. But I don't. There is no doubt about that. Chances are, I'll catch some of their set at SNWM

The first time I heard Groundation, I liked Harrison's voice. Now, after seeing them a handful of times and buying a few of there releases, I find his vocals and lyrics inspired, but at best adequate, and usually mildly irritating. That said, IMO he's as good as most reggae "vocalists" that are recording today, which ain't saying much. Cheers.

I saw Johnny Clarke play to about 10 people at Moe's Alley a few years back. By the end of the show he was playing to two people on the dancefloor, myself included. Big up Mr. Clarke, doing it nice for me on a quiet Sunday night.

Teachdem. MKE mi come from. The Villages Brown Deer and River Hills, to be exact. Nicolet High (aka "Nickelbag" '83. Been far gone since then, though, with the exception of a pleasant summer sojourn in Madison around 1990. Still make it back yearly to see the people and catch some fish. Not much reggae/ska/rocksteady thereabouts these days, from what I hear. Ites.

Moe's was packed, again. Show was pretty good, as Nomo would say. Not the greatest Midnite show ever, but a suitable Sunday evening of long, loud and slow reggae. I caught about 90 minutes (which is my current "stay on my feet after midnight" Midnite limit). Great Zimbabwe Walls was the highlight for me. By my estimation, the average height of the audience was 6'4'' and weight

I have to recommend Jah Shaka- Dub Salute 5: featuring the Twinkle Brothers. Heavy mitlitant dub versions of great Twinkles tracks. Hits hard when played loud. Ites.
